English Language Institute (ELI)
Full-Time Temporary Faculty

SALARY:$81,219.80-$82,551.65 for a September-June contract, and $40/hour for curriculum and program development between April and September.

DESCRIPTION:
Edmonds College is seeking an English Language Institute (ELI) Temporary Full-Time Faculty member.

As an ELI Faculty Member, you will be responsible for teaching English to linguistically diverse international students and providing leadership and collaboration in the classroom, the department, the division, and the college to support a holistic student experience. This individual will take a leadership role in building a new program within the college and will serve as department head for this program. Other leadership responsibilities include supporting other new Associate faculty and liaising with the Office of International Programs on student issues related to F-1 visa requirements. Additional college-wide responsibilities include maintaining required records, academic advising and consulting with students; participating in achieving the College’s mission and goals; upholding the College’s values; college governance via department and division work; committee assignments; required professional development and college in-service activities (including employee orientation and college compliance training); and personal and program evaluation.

The teaching assignment may include early-morning, late-afternoon, and evening in-person classes. This is a temporary full-time position that reports to the Dean of International Education. Curriculum and program development will take place April through September, and the full-time temporary teaching position has an anticipated start date in September 2024 and will have a 9-month service period.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA OR higher in TESL, OR BA or higher in a related field plus a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language or a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language conferred prior to the start of employment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the field of teaching English to multilingual learners including experience with engaging, serving, and addressing the needs of and impacts of TESL on diverse populations.
  • Experience in designing and delivering culturally, linguistically, and socially equitable curriculum and assessments for English language learners.
  • Experience or potential in addressing inequalities in access, learning, and achievement.


PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in a classroom and office and requires standing or sitting for extended periods. Faculty are required to use a computer in the work environment.


COMPENSATION:

The salary is based on the current faculty salary schedule; placement is based on education. The current range is $81,219 to $82,551 annually for a 172-day appointment.
