$3,401 - $3,821/month ($20.33 -$22.84)(prorated to a 16 hour per week schedule)

DESCRIPTION
:

The Early Childhood Program Specialist 2 (Assistant Teacher) working under the general direction of the Early Childhood Program Specialist 3 (Lead Teacher) is a primary support person in the classroom and assists in implementing the educational curriculum and the general operation of an infant, toddler, or preschool classroom. The teacher works intimately with parents/families building trust and respectful partnerships through which children’s individual learning plans and classroom curriculum are developed and implemented. This position supports the class’s education team and serves on the childcare leadership team. In the absence of the Lead Teacher and the Assistant Teacher, the ECPS 2 assumes leadership responsibilities in classroom operation, management of children and direction of staff and volunteers.

This position supports the colleges’ mission by supporting access and success by removing one of the 3 most common barriers to higher education by providing on-campus high quality childcare for student parents; family support services to strengthen the students personal, educational and career goals and academic success. Additionally, provides educational opportunities for students seeking careers in early childhood education and/ or family support, culinary and office administration. The position also sets the foundation for lifelong learning for future Tritons within the early childhood education programming for the students' children. Employees within the Edmonds College Center for Families childcare embrace innovation by participating in state and national quality improvement models and assessments for accreditation.

This is a classified position reporting to the Director of the Center for Families.

Responsibilities include:

  • Curriculum and Teaching: Assists in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets children’s individual physical, intellectual, language, literacy, creative, self identity and social/emotional needs based on assessed developmental and emotional needs.
  • Assists in monitoring and maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment.
  • Provide a classroom and outdoor environment that is inviting to children and families and that encourages children’s exploration and maintains high standards of cleaning and sanitizing-including quarterly deep cleans and quarterly change of classroom set-up.
  • Use teaching practices that consistently model warm, positive and nurturing interactions with children; promote development in all developmental domains (social-emotional, language, intellect, physical); and use best practices in ECE.
  • Monitor and implement practices that meet licensing regulations and NAEYC accreditation standards, program policies, and college policies. Implement current research in best practices of early learning and family support and NAEYC code of ethics.
  • Identify children’s strengths and document growth: Record anecdotal observations, conduct screenings and assessments according to standardized instructions, and under direction, maintain records.
  • Demonstrate leadership in ECE practices and family support, following NAEYC ethical standards and demonstrate a high standard of collaboration and continuing education.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • AA, AAS or ATA with at least 30 Early Childhood Education credits within one year of hire date.
  • One or more years experience working with children ages, infancy to pre-kindergarten.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Two year degree with at least 45 credit Early Childhood Education certification.
  • Strong computer skills, familiarity with Google Docs.
  • Fidelity in using Creative Curriculum for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
  • Experience using Teaching Strategies Gold (TSG) and Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ).
  • Experience in assessing, referring and individualizing instruction for children with special needs.
  • Ability to manage and direct the work of adults in a culturally and ability diverse program.


PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
:

Work is performed in a fast-paced early learning childcare program at the Center for Families including exposure to varying environmental/weather conditions, light cleaning duties that may involve body fluids and require cleaning products. Set-up a classroom that requires moving of child size furniture, tables, chairs, shelves, and regular sized shelving units. Working with children requires the ability to walk or run quickly, kneel or sit on the floor for long periods of time, lift approximately 50 pounds, sit in a child’s size chair and move quickly from multiple positions and levels. Ability to walk and run on varying surfaces, including wood chips, sand, and hard floors. Perform regular sanitation/cleaning of the classroom that may require the use of a broom, carpet sweeper, mop, vacuum and the use of cleaning products.


WORK SCHEDULE
:

This position is 16 hours per week, scheduled during operating hours, Monday to Friday. Some evenings required. It is cyclic 10.5 months. Willingness to work with all age groups is required.


COMPENSATION
:

Salary range 36. Beginning salary is $3,537 - $3,974 monthly ($20.33 -$22.84) (prorated to a 16 hour per week schedule), with progressive increases to $4,072. This position is not eligible for benefits. Paid PTO/Sick leave on an accrual basis.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.
  • Criminal background check. Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • All new positions are contingent upon funding.
  • This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
  • At this time, Edmonds College does not sponsor H1-B Visas.
  • Prior to the start date, Pass a DCYF portable background check that includes criminal and child protective services history.
  • Prior to the start date, Valid First Aid/CPR for pediatric and adults.
  • Prior to the start date, a Valid Snohomish Health District food handler’s permit.
  • Prior to the start date, Current evidence of negative tuberculosis results from a test or chest x-ray, not more than one year from hire date.
  • Prior to start date: Verification of measles vaccination or verification of immunity from a medical provider.
  • Within 30 days of hire, DCYF 30 Hours STARS basic training or approved alternate ECE courses.
  • 10 hours of continuing education that meets DCYF STARS requirements, annually.
  • Prior to working with children, completion of bloodborne pathogens and DCYF mandatory training (ie, Safe Sleep, Mandated Reporter, etc.), and update annually.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying rules and regulations, including child care licensing regulations, center and college policies and procedures, and NAEYC accreditation standards.
  • In order to assure the safety of each child, an employee in this position, while in presence of children, is expected to remain alert and focused at all times and make quick and spontaneous decisions using problem-solving skills and good judgment based on organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the safety of the environment and children through visual, auditory, verbal, mobility and smell.
  • Complete, sign, and submit Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct
