Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Project Manager exemplifies the PRIDE values in their day-to-day work with internal and external stakeholders. This position drives setup, execution, and closeout of Eskenazi Health projects of varying complexity. Serves as the consolidated point of accountability, communication, and coordination for all activities within a given project. The PM also drives successful projects of varying types, if need be, by engaging and organizing the effort of subject matter experts, external vendors, and Senior Project Managers. The Project Managers optimize the type, extent, and formality of controls required to achieve project success efficiently. Project Managers are charged with driving consistency in the way that projects are established, tracked, and executed in the Eskenazi Health environment. The ideal project manager will use the existing methodologies to execute their projects while searching for ways for process improvement.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Establishes, plans, manages, and closes out approved projects approved by the organization and assigned by IT/IS leadership
  • Understands the importance of the project being executed and the impact on other systems
  • Coordinates internal and external resources to ensure that projects adhere to scope, schedule, and budget
  • Assigns and monitors tasks to the appropriate stakeholders and/or project team members
  • Organizes project status reporting and communication
  • Ensures that Eskenazi Health project management standards are utilized for all projects including thorough documentation
  • Ensures that project portfolio information is kept up to date with project status, risk, and cost information
  • Ensures that project related materials are centralized and readily accessible to the project team and stakeholders
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with project stakeholders by providing thorough status updates
  • At the closure of the project, ensure that the scope and objectives of the project were met

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, healthcare management and policy or a related field, or the equivalent in other experience and/or certification
  • PMI or similar certification, Scrum Master Certification; degree in project management, or business with a concentration in project management is a plus. Obtaining the PMP certification within the first 5 years of hire is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing projects of varying complexities as a primary role
    • Experience with documenting, communicating, and managing technical projects to achieve results that are on time and to stakeholder expectation
    • Experience using common project and portfolio management platforms such as Microsoft Project, Jira, Primavera, ServiceNow, etc.
    • Experience managing software deployment/upgrade projects (define, design, develop, deploy and support) is a plus
    • Experience managing projects in a healthcare setting is a plus

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills and properly communicates and escalates issues to leadership, as needed
  • Ability to monitor and assign resources appropriately to streamline project efficiency and maximize deliverable outputs.
  • Ability to productively engage staff, customers, stakeholders, and partners at all levels. The incumbent will be able to effectively coordinate project participation across a diversity of roles both within and beyond Eskenazi Health
  • Ability to identify key team members and stakeholders for projects of different types. The Project Manager is expected to be able to identify the key roles needed for each project. Project Managers will work with Senior Project Managers and their leadership to identify the key staff.
  • Ability to facilitate the development of clear and actionable project objectives which meet business requirements. Project Managers are expected to be able to work with stakeholders to arrive at agreement around useful project objectives.
  • Ability to facilitate discovery and planning of projects of all scales. Project Managers are expected to work down from objectives toward actionable work plans for projects of all scales and complexities.
  • Ability to match project management approaches with varying project scenarios. Project Managers are expected to choose appropriate project approaches (e.g. scrum versus waterfall) for successfully achieving project objectives given differing work types, teams, etc.
  • Ability to drive compliance around project status reporting. Project Managers are expected to ensure that task or deliverable level project status is available at all times during project execution.
  • Ability to succinctly summarize and communicate project status. Project Managers are expected to consistently utilize templates and other pre-made materials to report regularly on project status.
  • Knowledge of stakeholder management, service improvement, and requirements engineering/analysis best practices
  • Familiarity with service management processes relevant to project management: Release Management, Change Management, Transition Planning and Support, Continual Service Improvement, etc
  • Ability to succinctly summarize and communicate project status. Project Managers are expected to consistently utilize templates and other pre-made materials to report regularly on project status.
  • Project Managers should be solutions focused with the ability to identify potential problems and lead conversations to find the appropriate solution.
  • Project Managers should be able to motivate others to get tasks completed on time.
  • Project Managers should be organized with a strong attention to detail.
