Reporting to the AVP/Controller, the Director and Assistant Controller will work beside senior leadership to lead the accounting operations of Velocity’s newly formed insurance carrier. The ‘hybrid’ position will be located at our corporate headquarters in Nashville, TN. They will be responsible for establishing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, and controls, while ensuring that reporting systems are optimized, efficient, and cost-effective. The candidate will be responsible for delivering timely and accurate periodic financial statements that are in compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles (“SAP”) and GAAP financial statements. The Assistant Controller will work closely with leadership in setting the vision and direction for financial reporting and forecasting, working closely with other business unit leaders, and helping with quarterly reporting to the Board of Directors. As a member of the broader leadership team, you will be responsible for setting the bar for financial reporting and taking initiative in problem solving.

The core responsibilities of this role are…

• Reviews and analyzes financial statements to ensure completeness and accuracy of periodic SAP statements.
• Reviews and drives preparation of periodic reporting of US GAAP financial statements.
• Monitors and confirms financial condition by coordinating with internal and external auditors.
• Prepares budgets, cash flow, and financial forecasts.
• Establishes, monitors, and enforces internal controls.
• Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
• Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Assess processes for improvement opportunities, drive change and educate colleagues on new ways of working.
• Supports month-end and year-end close processes for MGA operations.

Demonstrated experience for success in this role…

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• CPA designation preferred, or other industry relevant certifications such as AIAF or CFA
• Dedicated experience with insurance financial statements, general ledger function, and accounting principals
• 4 years’ experience in insurance financial leadership
• Highly adept with Microsoft Excel
