Duties

Selectee(s) will report to an assigned DOL office location on a regular basis and be eligible for telework as determined by agency policy. This is not a remote position. Offices are located in: Washington, DC; Beckley, WV; Pittsburgh, PA; Boston, MA; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Atlanta, GA; Cleveland, OH; Chicago, IL; Kansas City, MO; Denver, CO; Lakewood, CO; Dallas, TX; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; Jacksonville, FL; Arlington Heights, IL; Sandy, UT; Triadelphia, WV. Upon selection, salary will be set in accordance with the selectee's assigned duty location.
The incumbent of this position serves as the confidential Staff Assistant and key office administrative advisor to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Deputy Chief Information Officer (DCIO) of the OCIO and performs a variety of special and confidential assignments related to administrative and technical support. This position is responsible for detailed planning relating to a wide variety of complex management projects, issues, and initiatives. Incumbent interfaces with individuals at all echelons of the organization, to include management throughout the Department. The incumbent coordinates projects and tasks on behalf of the CIO and DCIO by ensuring priority actions and those of particular interest are executed throughout the organization. Management relies upon the incumbent to initiate and direct courses of action for timely accomplishment of administrative assignments and to initiate actions that may include recommending solutions for their attention. The OCIO is organizationally complex, comprised of professional, technical and administrative personnel under the direction of OASAM. Work is performed independently with incumbent responsible for using initiative, tact, and judgment.

  • Serves as the liaison between the CIO and DCIO and the subordinate managers, supervisors and staff members.
  • Monitors and follows reviews, analyses and prepares a variety of reports, publications and correspondence.
  • Receives, reviews, and proofs all memorandums, letters, and documents requiring corrections or rewrites.
  • Prepares findings and recommendations so that the CIO and DCIO will be adequately briefed on pertinent matters, including current status, priorities and action required.
  • Participates with the CIO and DCIO and other OCIO management officials in the formulation, planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of OCIO administrative policies, program development, courses of action, and operations for OCIO and the Department.
  • Serves as a key member of the senior planning staff of OCIO, making substantial contributions to overall planning and program development and evaluation, operating policy, and internal and external coordination.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12 in the Federal Service.
Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
Qualifying specialized experience for includes:
  • Experience in evaluating the content of new or modified polices and regulations to determine the impact upon the agency's programs and resources.
  • Experience serving as the recognized technical authority for planning and evaluating complex management or program functions.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and directing a wide variety of highly diverse program and administration activities in an effective manner, and other simultaneously or under tight deadlines.
