US Department of Energy - Agency Wide is Hiring an Information Technology Specialist (AI) Near Washington, DC

Duties

As a Information Technology Specialist (AI) you will:

  • Identify, assess, and manage security risks across the organization. This includes conducting risk assessments, establishing risk management frameworks, and ensuring the organization's risk tolerance aligns with its business goals.
  • Implement and maintain security tools and technologies.
  • Review current software products and make recommends changes to ensure security products meet organizational mission requirements.
  • Prepare briefings and reports for management officials in support of security configurations to protect AI programs.
  • Provide direct mentoring, assistance, and support to junior staff in their technical growth.

  • This position has been designated as NON-CRITICAL SENSITIVE and requires a security clearance at the "L" Level. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain this clearance; failure to do so may result in separation from federal service.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment.
  • You are required to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, Executive Branch Personnel Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of entering the position and annually.
  • This position does not support 100% remote work. You will be required to report physically to the official reporting worksite as specified by the supervisor, but no less than 2 days per pay period.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT:For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.
Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
In addition to the competencies, a qualified candidate's online application and resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-13: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 of 3 of the following:

  • Preparing recommendations for policy and procedure changes related to security and privacy for Artificial Intelligence related programs; OR
  • Reviewing current safeguarding systems to identify vulnerabilities and recommend corrective actions; OR
  • Applying IT cybersecurity principles, concepts, standards, and practices and technical advice, guidance, and recommendations to management and other specialists on critical security and privacy issues.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-14: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 of 3 of the following:
  • Providing technical advice, counsel, and instruction on Artificial Intelligence security issues, including preparing various reports, briefings, summaries, and progress report; OR
  • Integrating information systems security with other security disciplines and ensuring coordination and/or collaboration on security activities; OR
  • Analyzing IT security and privacy requirements to determine risk to an organization's programs.
Education cannot be substituted for experience at the GS-13 or GS-14 grade level.
"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This position is announced under a government-wide Direct-Hire Authority (DHA) for Information Technology Specialist (AI) positions in the 2210 series.
