US Government Publishing Office is Hiring an Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC) Near Washington, DC

Duties

  • Develops security standards and policy procedures for use in the evaluation of systems analysis, programming, program maintenance, documentation techniques, security awareness training, risk assessments, risk reviews, and contingency planning.
  • Analyzes hardware, software, and support service requirements of operations critical to the mission of the agency in order to determine the emergency operating. backup, and recovery requirements.
  • Ensures IT applications are engineered to protect sensitive information.
  • Participates in hardware/telecommunications tests and acceptance.

Qualifications

You must meet both the Basic Requirement and the Specialized Experience to qualify for this series as described below.

Experience:
Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:
  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized Experience:
To qualify for the IT Specialist (INFOSEC) PG-13, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PG-12 grade level in the Federal Service that includes: 1) Developing and maintaining operational computer security policies 2) Installing and maintaining critical security hardware and/or software 3) Reviewing proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Background Investigation:
Top-Secret Clearance:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Top Secret. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Top Secret clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.
GPO will conduct an interim security clearance, pending the completion of the full investigative requirements for the final Top Secret clearance. The interim security clearance will be granted based on the favorable completion of preliminary checks that are accomplished as part of the security clearance process. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments and the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
