US Brick is Hiring a Human Resources Manager Near Charleston, SC

At US Brick, we are looking for a team member who has a roll up the sleeves and get it done in a safe, efficient, and thoughtful manner work ethic.

US Brick has a current vacancy to join our diverse and dynamic company as an HR Manager. This person may be located in the Charleston, SC or Columbia, SC area. This role will report directly to the President. The HR Manager (team of one) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources in an organization with a small workforce. As the sole HR professional, this role involves managing various HR functions, implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with employment laws. The HR Manager provides guidance, without a direct reporting relationship, to the site personnel who are responsible for the direct implementation of company policies. The HR Manager (team of one) serves as a strategic partner to the leadership team, providing guidance on employee relations, talent management, and organizational development.

What you will be doing:

  • Recruitment and Onboarding:
    • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including job posting, candidate sourcing, interviewing, and selection
    • Help facilitate a smooth onboarding process
  • Employee Relations:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters
    • Conduct investigations and resolution of workplace issues, ensuring compliance with company policies and union agreements
    • Facilitate communication between management and union representatives to address concerns and maintain positive labor relations
    • Foster a positive work environment through effective communication and conflict resolution
  • Performance Management:
    • Develop and implement performance management processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, and feedback sessions
    • Provide guidance to managers on addressing performance issues and recognizing achievements
  • Training and Development:
    • Identify training needs and coordinate professional development opportunities for employees
    • Support career development through mentoring programs and training initiatives
  • Policy Development and Compliance:
    • Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with legal requirements
    • Keep abreast of employment laws and regulations, updating policies as necessary to ensure compliance
  • Benefits Administration:
    • Manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits-related inquiries
  • HR Administration:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records
    • Handle payroll processing, timekeeping, and other administrative HR tasks
  • Employee Engagement:
    • Implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement and workplace culture
    • Plan and organize employee events and activities
  • Strategic HR Planning:
    • Work closely with senior leadership to align HR strategies with overall business goals
    • Propose and implement HR initiatives that contribute to the organization's success
  • HR Metrics and Reporting:
    • Develop and maintain HR metrics to assess and improve organizational effectiveness.
    • Generate reports for management, highlighting key HR indicators and trends
  • Union Negotiations and Contract Management:
    • Lead negotiations with union representatives to establish, renew, and amend collective bargaining agreements
    • Collaborate with legal counsel to ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations
    • Manage and administer union contracts, addressing grievances, disputes, and other labor-related matters
  • HR Compliance:
    • Stay abreast of changes in labor laws and regulations, ensuring organizational compliance
    • Implement HR policies and practices that align with both company objectives and union requirements
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Travel as needed to various company locations to provide HR support
    • Collaborate with local managers to address HR issues and ensure consistency in HR practices

These are the primary responsibilities of the role and general expectations, but additional tasks may be assigned within the scope of your skills and abilities and appropriate training and guidance will be provided as needed.

The HR Manager (Team of one) plays a crucial role in shaping the organizational culture and ensuring the effective management of human capital within a limited team environment.

The required skills and education to be successful:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Proven experience as an HR professional, preferably in a small to mid-sized organization
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and make sound HR decisions
  • Proficient in HRIS and other relevant software
  • Union experience a plus but is not required
  • Certification in Human Resources (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus
  • Willingness to travel as required

Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting/remote.
