Salary
Salary Range: Up to $40,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Essential Functions
Research associate / lab manager position available at the laboratory of Dr. Alexey A. Soshnev (www.chromatin.bio) at UTSA Department of Neuroscience, Developmental and Regenerative Biology. Working with tissue culture and animal models, we aim to understand how (a) chromatin structure impacts gene expression in disease and development and (b) how mutations in chromatin factors drive developmental disorders. We will use a range of both classical biochemistry and genetic tools, live-cell imaging, and a growing number of "-omics" techniques for gene expression and chromatin landscape analyses. We also plan on making extensive use of mouse models, including behavioral analyses at UTSA LARC core. As such, motivated candidates with wide range of expertise (from wet lab to computational!) and backgrounds (including but not limited to developmental biology, biochemistry, and neuroscience) are encouraged to apply. The position offers an excellent opportunity to (a) interact with other academic groups in UT system, UT Health, and other academic institutions in the US - including established collaborations with Weill Cornell Medicine, MSKCC, and the Rockefeller University, (b) publish in peer-reviewed journals, and (c) participate in national and international conferences. Laboratory is part of a newly restructured Department of Neuroscience, Developmental, and Regenerative Biology at UTSA College of Sciences, with excellent collaborative track record and expertise in genomics, single-cell analyses, and stem cell biology. We greatly encourage collaborative spirit, and excitement about learning new perspectives and ideas.
Typical:
  • Routine tasks of but not limited to ordering lab supplies, maintaining reagent stocks, scheduling and record keeping.
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates detailed phases of one or more parts of a research project including devising new approaches to problems encountered; conducting operations security reviews; and assisting with progress/project reporting.
  • Performs leadership duties to include assisting in the preparation of specifications and the development of techniques; supervision and training of student employees, interns and volunteers; oversees staff using established procedures; and leads research teams in advanced multi-year research activities.
  • Assume responsibility for acceptance or rejection of results achieved.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Assist in the preparation of project reports.

Required Qualifications
Research Scientist Associate I:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the field of assignment and one year of related research experience.
Research Scientist Associate II
Master's degree from an accredited institution in the field of assignment and one year of related research experience. A Bachelor's degree and two additional years of experience may substitute for the Master's degree
Research Scientist Associate III
Master's degree from an accredited institution in the field of assignment and two years of related research experience. A Bachelor's degree and two additional years of experience may substitute for the Master's degree
  • Comfort in working with Drosophila and mammalian model organisms.
  • Comply with all relevant protocols and mandates specified by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Biosafety Committees and Institutional Review Boards.
  • Ability to strictly follow all laboratory safety procedures, including use and disposal of chemical and biological waste.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to maintaining a respectful and inclusive laboratory environment.
  • Maintain clean and functional workspace.
Preferred Qualifications
Research Scientist Associate I:
Advanced courses leading to a Master's degree in the field of assignment and two years of related research experience
Research Scientist Associate II
Advanced courses leading to a Ph.D. in the field of assignment and two years of related research experience
Research Scientist Associate III
Advanced courses leading to a Ph.D. in the field of assignment and three or more years of related research experience.
  • Prior experience with mouse models and Python/R.
