University of Pittsburgh, Department of Ophthalmology is searching for a Laboratory Manager. The Laboratory Manager will manage day-to-day laboratory operations and rodent research studies aimed at the development of new approaches to treat blindness.
Job Summary
Manages day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Develops and collaborates on routine projects and procedures. Manages inventory and equipment. Position requires mastery or experience working with rodents, excellent communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, ability to learn quickly, complete tasks efficiently, and work independently. Vision-specific training to perform duties will be provided.
Job SummaryManages day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Works with, adapts, and installs scientific equipment in research laboratories. Collaborates on routine projects and procedures. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions.
Essential Functions* Communicate with Charles River Laboratories to maintain off-site mouse colony
* Maintain limited number of rodent colonies (including breeding, weaning, tagging and submitting biopsies for genotyping) within animal facility at UPMC Mercy Vision Research Institute
* Manage mouse colony databases
* Communicate with regulatory entities and maintain pertinent paperwork
* Set up and document animal studies as determined by principal investigator or members of research teams
* Establish protocols and SOP to collect, bank, and catalog ocular tissues
* Establish protocols and SOP for analysis of vision in rodents, performing ocular surgery and compiling data
Qualification of candidate
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in a scientific field or equivalent combination of experience and training.
Physical Effort- Must be able to stand for the long period of time
- Must be able to work on computer for the long period of time
- Good dexterity
