Position Overview
Imogen Herrick, Assistant Professor of STEM Education, seeks a student to assist in a Community Science Data Talks research project. The project will consist of participating in data collection, analysis of student artifacts, and construction of teacher tools.
Job Description
50% Data generation and creation of data talks that focus on food, energy, and water issues. Student will use GIS and local data to generate Community Science Data Talks. The student will need to research local data, meet with KU researchers to gain access to different data presentations and construct data visualizations into Community Science Data Talks. 30% Collaboration on manuscripts related to the project Two manuscripts are planned. The first will be a book chapter that will describe the idea of a Community Science Data Talk and the issues of redlining and tree canopy coverage. The second manuscript will focus on the role of Community Science Data Talks in students’ knowledge making about an issue. 20% Meeting with Dr. Herrick Dr. Herrick and the student employed for this position will meet weekly throughout the time of the study (01/30/24-06/10/24).
Required Qualifications
Must be a KU undergraduate student in the School of Education & Human Sciences
Upon interview, must be proficient in GIS, a digital mapping program.
**During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
