University of Kansas is Hiring a Student Hourly Research Technician Near Lawrence, KS

Position Overview

The Speech and Applied Neuroscience Lab (https://sanlab.ku.edu/) is seeking an undergraduate student with background and interest in speech motor control to assist with data collection and management for our sponsored research project with industry partner Wispr AI (https://wispr.ai) The purpose of our collaboration is to conduct data collection for a next generation neuromotor communication interface.
Our KU team will work to recruit participants, collect neuromotor data during speech production tasks, and coordinate with Wispr AI on best practices for data collection, analysis, and storage. Our work aims to accelerate the development of innovative speech and communication interfaces. This position provides the opportunity to gain invaluable experience working in a multidisciplinary lab, developing skills in collaborative and translational research, and being part of a public-private partnership for technology development.

Job Description

In this position, the hourly research technician will schedule research participants, set up and administer all procedures for neuromuscular data collection, clean and verify validity of collected data, and communicate with the KU and Wispr teams. Opportunities will be available for students to learn skills in interpretation of biophysiological data and experimental design.

Additional Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Communicate with KU and Wispr teams on progress
  • Contact and conduct intake screening for data collection participants

Required Qualifications

  • Ongoing bachelor’s degree in: Speech-Language-Hearing, Psychology, Neuroscience, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Familiarity with biophysiological data collection practices
  • Good interpersonal skills for communicating with lab personnel and study participants.
  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
