This is a full-time, tenure track position in Kanaka Maoli/Native Hawaiian Visual Art to begin Fall 2024, pending position clearance and availability of funds. Seeking applications who will develop and teach Kanaka Maoli Visual Art as well as courses in one or more areas of the department’s Art Studio program. Teaching assignments will be determined in accordance with the candidate’s areas of expertise. This position also contributes to graduate programs, student supervision, and mentorship.
We invite applicants who maintain an active studio practice, are immersed in an expansive definition of Kanaka Maoli Visual Art, and support the transmission, transformation, and expression of Native Hawaiian knowledge in its various forms. We are especially interested in a candidate who will take an active role in shaping the department and university in ways that contribute to UHM’s strategic vision as “an Indigenous-serving institution grounded in aloha ‘aina.” The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated connection to Kanaka Maoli communities, as well as a deep understanding of Kanaka Maoli creative and cultural practices as evidenced in their research, teaching, and commitment to service.
