Other Conditions: General funds, contingent upon position clearance, department needs, and fund availability. Appointment to begin August 2024. Selectee is required to complete the COE New Faculty Orientation in the first year, Title IX training, and pass a criminal background check.
 
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence at the university level;
  • Develop and teach undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students in field-based teacher preparation programs in face-to-face and/or via a variety of distance delivery modes;
  • Support teacher licensure programs for HLI licensure pathways/candidates;
  • Coordinate cohorts of teacher candidates in field-based settings; 
  • Collaborate with School of Teacher Education stakeholders, including colleagues at the university, school-level personnel, and community leaders;
  • Supervise teacher candidates in field-based settings;
  • Collaborate with international partnerships; 
  • Lead and participate in grant writing to support teacher education and teacher education partnerships; 
  • Lead and participate in accreditation and program assessment activities; 
  • Participate in teacher recruitment and retention activities;
  • Participate in teacher diversification activities (e.g., developing activities and curriculum for equitable instruction of diverse student populations);
  • Advise graduate students;
  • Develop an active research and publication agenda;
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, public schools, and professional community;
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Earned doctorate in Education, Hawaiian Language or closely related field from an accredited institution; will consider ABD if completed by date of hire. 
  2. Three years as teacher of record in a K-12 Hawaiian Language Immersion (HLI) setting. 
  3. Evidence of an active or emerging research agenda;
  4. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and social justice and experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
  5. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
 
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Experience in teacher education field experiences and/or mentoring teachers (preservice or inservice).
  2. Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring.
  3. History of successful work with and/or in various educational systems (e.g., University of Hawaii, Hawaii Department of Education, Kamehameha Schools) in Hawaii.
  4. Broad research and publication experience.
  5. Evidence of successful grant writing to support teacher education and teacher education partnerships;
  6. Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative teamwork skills.
  7. Experience working with Native Hawaiian, special needs, or English language learner populations.
