Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Teach graduate courses in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in areas of specialty.
  • Provide direct services to diagnose and manage patients with speech, language, and cognitive-communication disorders.
  • Supervise students in clinical education experiences.
  • Mentor students in their Master’s research project.
  • Actively engage in scholarly research in area(s) of interest with the expectation of securing extramural grants to support research activity and disseminating results in peer-reviewed publications and presentations at conferences or symposiums.
  • May serve in department leadership role.
  • Other scholarly, clinical, and administrative duties as assigned.
Associate Professor Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Same as Assistant Professor but with increased responsibility for administering programs in education, clinical education, and research; and with less supervision and oversight.

Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications
  • Terminal doctoral degree (i.e., PhD or EdD) in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field from an accredited college or university of recognized standing.
  • Current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA CCC-SLP).
  • State of Hawaii Speech Pathologist license to practice in the State of Hawaii by date of hire;
  • Academic, clinical, and research expertise in child language disorders.
  • Evidence of proficiency in teaching.
  • Experience in providing direct services in clinical specialties.
  • Poise and confidence for outreach to collaborators and community partners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications
Same as Assistant Professor level, with addition of the following:
  • A minimum of four years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of assistant professor or equivalent, with evidence of increasing professional maturity.
  • Scholarly achievement judged competent and adequate for the rank in comparison with peers active in the same field at major research universities.
  • Continued evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization, or in an appropriate professional society or organization, or in other appropriate job-related service activities.
  • Ability to plan and organize assigned activities, including the supervision of work of assistants when appropriate.
  • Ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues.
Professor Minimum Qualifications
Same as Associate Professor level, with addition of the following:
  • A minimum of four years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of associate professor or equivalent, with evidence of increasing professional maturity.
  • Research productivity which has resulted in significant recognition by the national or international community of scholars active in the same field.
  • Ability to undertake a variety of assignments within the University.
  • Demonstrated capacity for leadership in the department and scholarly discipline.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Record of program development.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership positions.
  • Documentation of interdisciplinary collaborations to achieve program and student outcomes.
  • Experience in telepractice service delivery.
  • Experience in supervising student clinicians.
  • Experience in working in a multicultural setting.
