The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering (CECE) seeks to hire an energetic and accomplished full-time Assistant Professor with a specialization in Construction Engineering. We seek candidates who can demonstrate current and advanced knowledge with strong abilities for undergraduate that meet ABET criteria as well as graduate teaching This appointment will begin in Fall 2024 and will be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position is offered in the context of a collaborative hire between the CECE and the School of Architecture (SOA) to strengthen collaboration in areas of mutual interest in construction and construction management (refer to Position Number (position number pending) for a corresponding position in the SOA). Duties and Responsibilities:

* Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to construction engineering (such as project planning and project management, scheduling, estimating/bidding, building systems, contract administration, construction safety, dispute resolution, productivity improvement, process simulation and related civil engineering courses including construction methods and materials. Development of construction engineering curriculum should also be done in coordination with the collaborative faculty hire in construction management in the SOA.

* Serving as chair or member of committees in charge of candidates for advanced degrees.

* Participating in curriculum development activities including the development of curricular materials and special instructional methods.

* Supervising independent study activities.

* Serving as academic advisor to students.

* Serving on departmental, college, and university committees.

* Develop an externally funded research program that leads to publication in leading scholarly journals in coordination with the collaborative faculty hire in construction management in the SOA.

* Support the recruitment, retention, and graduation of Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and other underrepresented populations in engineering.

* Participate in initiatives towards the creation of place-based/Hawaii-based curriculum to impact construction engineering knowledge.

* Participate in implementing the Native Hawaiian principles from the UH Manoa Strategic Plan.

Minimum Qualifications:

* An earned Ph.D. from a college or university of recognized standing in civil and/or construction engineering.

* At least three years of work experience in the construction industry.

* Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching excellence and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels and the ability to teach students from different backgrounds with diverse life experiences and learning styles.

* Demonstrated scholarly achievement, evidenced by a track record of conducting research and publishing scholarly materials.

* Demonstrated ability to teach graduate courses in area of specialty, as well as undergraduate courses in civil and construction engineering.

* Excellent communication skills and ability to engage successfully in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment.

Desirable Qualifications:

* Five to ten years of work experience in the construction industry.

* Evidence of interaction and hands-on experience in the construction industry.

* Membership in professional associations.

* Service for professional associations.

* Ability to recruit, retain, and graduate Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and/or other underrepresented populations in Engineering.

* Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

* Experience creating place-based and/or Hawai'i based curriculum.

* Willingness towards the creation of placed-based and/or Hawai'i based curriculum.

* Willingness to learn about and implement Native Hawaiian, Indigenous, and/or place-based principles into curriculum, programming, and work culture.

* Research emphasis applicable to or experience with Hawai'i and/or the Asian/Pacific region
