Departmental Overview
The Undocumented Student Program, a component of the Centers for Educational Equity and Excellence, provides holistic support and guidance to undocumented undergraduate and graduate students at UC Berkeley. USP practices a holistic, multicultural and solution-focused approach that delivers individualized service for each student. The mental health support, academic counseling, legal support, financial aid resources and extensive campus referral network provided by USP helps students develop the unique gifts and talents they each bring to the university, while empowering a sense of belonging. The program's mission is to support the advancement of undocumented students within higher education and promote pathways for engaged scholarship.

Responsibilities
Academic Counseling:
Provides multicultural, academic counseling across disciplines and colleges/schools to "at risk" populations (e.g., low-income, first-generation college, underrepresented, underserved and undocumented student populations, etc.). Incorporating a variety of theoretical approaches, the incumbent manages a caseload of students from post-admission through graduation.
Conducts a comprehensive assessment/analysis of students' needs and develops a plan of action to enhance students' academic success.
Provides support, guidance and coaching to undocumented students.
Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with student service and academic units on campus to resolve sensitive and complex student issues on financial aid, billing, housing, advising, health care, personal issues, etc.
Analyzes and assesses students' concerns and needs. Conducts follow-up and outreach activities to students.
Advocates on behalf of student concerns.
Program implementation & Outreach:
Under the direction of the USP Program Director, incumbent administers specialized and complex programs and projects that are designed to enhance student success including but not limited to the Undocumented Student Program.
Keeps abreast of student trends and emerging populations in higher education, particularly those relating undocumented students who are generally classified as low-income and first generation college populations.
Responsible for bringing issues and concerns impacting priority populations to the attention of Program Director.
Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with public and private social services, community groups, and agencies.
Participates in new student welcome events across campus, representing USP and talking to students about USP services.
Works and partners with undocumented initiatives on campus.
Supports with establishing and implementing short and long-term goals and objectives.
Oversees and is responsible for one or two projects such as (but not limited to): Transcending Beyond Berkeley Fellowship, Emergency Grants, USP Student Staff.
Leadership, Group Trainings and Facilitation:
Facilitates informational workshops on the needs and experience of underserved populations (i.e., low-income, first generation college, underrepresented, undocumented students) at conferences, symposia, and colloquiums.
Assumes liaison responsibility with academic departments, faculty, and community organizations.
Assists with delivery of trainings, workshops, and lectures to audiences including paraprofessionals, campus staff in academic support and students services units, graduate interns, post-doctoral interns, and system-wide UC professionals regarding undocumented student issues and effective retention and academic success models.
Participates in new student welcome events across campus, representing USP and talking to students about USP services.
Professional Development & Other Duties:
Participate in professional development opportunities that enhance individual and collective work towards supporting students and addressing inequities that non-traditional communities experience.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of trends and issues facing undocumented, low-income, first-generation college, and underrepresented students.
Knowledge of federal and state policies and issues impacting undocumented students including but not limited to AB 540, DACA, etc.
Knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, and human and career development.
Knowledge and experience in analyzing problems and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs.
Knowledge of laws and ethics related to counseling
Strong ability to communicate effectively with diverse student, staff and faculty community members
Knowledge of personal growth and development areas, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership.
Knowledge of or ability to learn University, college, and major requirements, policies and procedures, including policies on handling students records and confidential documents.
Salary & Benefits
This is a two-year, full-time (40 hours/week), Contract (temporary) appointment, eligible for full UC benefits with the possibility for extension.
This is a remote-friendly position, eligible for 40% remote capability.
This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $27.06 - $29.23.
