Departmental Overview
The Centers for Educational Equity and Excellence (CE3) is a cluster of multiple student support programs in the Division of Equity and Inclusion. CE3 provides complex and multi-format programs and services to priority student populations to ensure their successful transition into the academy, academic success, graduation, and transition to graduate programs and professional careers. These services have a critical impact on the campus' ability to fulfill its mission of equity, access, and inclusion to California's diverse population. TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is one of nine programs in CE3.
Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded TRIO program serving 320 first-generation, low-income transfer students at UC Berkeley. SSS students are at a higher risk of experiencing transitional and/or academic difficulties. SSS offers students solution-focused academic counseling and intervention, assessing academic needs and addressing academic and non-academic complexities/barriers to academic success; developing individual study plans; creating and fostering academic, social, and professional support networks and communities; academic strategy and enrichment workshops; enhancing academic skills (e.g., research skills, preparation for graduate programs, academic/work life balance); career planning and development support. The SSS program provides leadership opportunities via service learning internships that support programmatic goals and foster belonging. Community-building events and activities connect students to community, information, and advice.

Responsibilities
Provides multicultural academic counseling across disciplines and colleges/schools to TRIO SSS program participants (e.g., low-income, first-generation college, and students with disabilities). Incorporating a variety of theoretical approaches, the incumbent manages a caseload of students from pre-admission outreach through preparation for post-graduation transition to employment and/or graduate school; manages student assessment/analysis of students' needs and assists with developing a plan of action to enhance student academic success. Assists students with course scheduling and academic progress requirements; provides information on university policies, procedures, and academic deadlines. Provides academic, career, and financial literacy advising to an assigned caseload. Provides orientation for new program participants and informs them of program regulations and services. Maintains complete and accurate records on students served and specific services or referrals provided. Participates in developing, planning, and facilitating programming to meet grant objectives. Organizes workshops and events to engage participants in building academic skills, financial literacy, and career and/or graduate school preparation and readiness. Engages with campus partners to provide information sessions, workshops, and other activities that promote student engagement and success. Assists with TRIO SSS student recruitment, orientation, and End-of-Year Celebration. Coordinates the peer advocate program and provides training, supervision, mentoring, and other support as necessary. Assists with organizing peer-led events and activities that promote student engagement, academic success, community-building, and belonging. Manages the use of technology and social media to support program goals and objectives. Uses innovative approaches to deliver programs that meet student needs and improve student outcomes. Facilitates group discussions/seminars/courses. Plans and implements academic and personal development seminars, courses, and workshops each semester to assist students with navigating campus resources and the landscape of the research university. Assist with preparing TRIO SSS program reports, and data entry/data collection. Makes use of the online advising platform for reporting all student contacts. Assists with program evaluation and assessment. Keeps abreast of student trends in higher education, particularly low-income and first-generation college populations. Participates in TRIO professional training and seminar opportunities.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of the trends, issues, and experiences facing first-generation, low-income transfer students at the 4-year university. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience applying theories of multicultural counseling, learning, identity development, and human and career development. Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement, such as collaborative teaching/learning models, strategies for effective counseling and peer mentoring, small group facilitation and training, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy. Experience with planning, developing, and administering enrichment programs, academic and personal development seminars, courses, and workshops. Knowledge and experience in analyzing complex situations and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs designed to meet the diverse needs of students. Ability to manage multiple, competing tasks and prioritize projects in a fast-paced student services environment with attention to detail. Knowledge of career development for low-income and first-generation college students. Knowledge of and experience in conflict management and intervention strategies. Strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to successfully communicate information to a diverse audience in small and large group settings. Knowledge of university, college, and major requirements, policies, and procedures, including policies on handling student records and confidential documents. Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services.
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Masters in Education, Student Affairs, or Counseling and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $63,400.00 - $76,140.00.
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits. This position is exempt and paid monthly. This is a hybrid position, eligible for 40% remote capability.
