The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is one of several CE3 programs, and it provides holistic support to first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented college students with the guidance and resources necessary to succeed at UC Berkeley, one of the best public universities in the world. EOP academic counselors and student staff work alongside amazing students who, despite their unique responsibilities and challenges, transform their lives through academic achievement and personal growth. EOP's individualized academic counseling, comprehensive support services, and extensive campus referral network help students develop the unique gifts and talents they each bring to the university while empowering them to achieve.

Responsibilities
Provides multicultural academic counseling across disciplines and colleges/schools to non-traditional populations (e.g., low-income, first-generation college, and underrepresented populations). Incorporating a variety of theoretical approaches, provides consistent holistic academic counseling services to students from post-admission through graduation. Conducts a comprehensive assessment/analysis of students' needs and develops a plan of action to enhance students' academic success. Provides solutions and alternatives to problem areas. Assists EOP students in understanding and navigating university policies. Helps students develop strategies to solve academic and personal problems. Provides financial aid counseling and academic crisis intervention. Supports in the triaging of students to respective resources. Works with academic departments, faculty, and department management to help resolve specific student academic issues. Refers students to appropriate specialized programs and resources. Develops and delivers programming, including coordinating cross-departmental collaborations. Provides supervision and staff support to student staff. Supports the hiring, training, and supervision of the work of graduate interns and paraprofessionals. Keeps abreast of student trends in higher education, particularly low-income and first-generation college populations, and professional development. Plans, implements, and teaches academic and personal development seminars/courses. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date and timely documentation of all student meetings and programmatic contact. Other programmatic admin, projects, and duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of the theories and practices of multicultural counseling, learning, and human and career development. Knowledge in how to enhance students' intellectual and personal growth and development, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership. Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement, such as collaborative teaching / learning models, strategies for effective counseling and peer mentoring, small group facilitation and training, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy. Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under-prepared students in higher education. Knowledge and experience in analyzing complex situations and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs designed to meet the diverse needs of students. Experience in developing, coordinating, and delivering programming/workshops/events to enhance student experience and achievement. Knowledge of and experience in conflict management and intervention strategies. Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing. Strong multicultural humility and ability to work with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and identities. Experience in working with historically underrepresented ethnic minority communities, and first-generation college students. Knowledge and experience in researching, compiling, and analyzing data, and generating reports.
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/Training:
Master's degree in education, counseling, psychology, and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $64,000.00 - $74,000.00.
This is a 36-month, 100% full-time (40 hours per week), contract position that is eligible for full UC benefits with the possibility of extension. This position is exempt and paid monthly.
