Position description
The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Junior Specialist in the Hariharan Lab in the area of molecular genetics of growth regulation and development in Drosophila. Early-career scholars are encouraged to apply.
The Hariharan Lab uses Drosophila to investigate the mechanisms that regulate tissue growth and regeneration. The Specialist will participate in a research project that investigates the growth and regeneration of the Drosophila imaginal disc. The Specialist will conduct genetic experiments in Drosophila that involve the setting up, execution, and interpretation of genetic crosses. Experiments involve the dissection of Drosophila larval tissues and adult tissues, their analysis by immunohistochemistry and visualization using confocal microscopy. The technique of visualization of gene expression using the hybridization chain reaction is routinely used in the laboratory. The Specialist will use single-cell RNA seq data to generate hypothesis-driven genetic experiments and prepare data for verbal presentation and figures and will contribute to manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
The incumbent will be required to conduct research in a collaborative environment with an appreciation for lab safety and an environment that values equity, inclusion and diversity.
