Departmental Overview
UC Berkeley's University Health Services (UHS) is a comprehensive college health service providing fully accredited, primary medical care, counseling and psychological services, and innovative health promotion programs for students, faculty, and staff. UHS provides on-campus medical care and coordinates supplemental needs for off-campus care through a network of community specialists and hospitals. This position exists to provide financial and business support to UHS by working directly with our Finance and Business Operations Team. This position will provide regular financial reports (monthly, quarterly, and some annually), regular reconciliation of revenues and expenses, financial journals, assist with assignment of tasks within Sales Force, assist with building key control and tracking, and other tasks as needed. This position will serve as backup for our BusOps Staff including working in Bearbuy and with our Inventory Control Software. This position will track on items that we do on a regular basis and make sure that they are done in a timely fashion.
Professional who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments / projects / tasks of moderate scope and complexity; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.
Uses professional financial services concepts and knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and reconciling to ensure resources are being accounted for and protected. Applies UHS and Campus policies and procedures to resolve a variety of moderately complicated issues. Works on financial services problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

Responsibilities
Prepares reports and analyses to include summaries of financial transactions, budget vs actuals for individual units, the entire department, and specific projects. Utilizes campus systems, google sheets, and excel to gather information and create user friendly reports. Under general supervision, researches and gathers information from a variety of sources; prepares and summarizes information and reports relative to new services, regulatory compliance issues and / or vendor selection and support activities.
Assists with ensuring that financial processing functions which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, recharge billing, travel / entertainment, gift accounting, cashiering and collections are performed with accuracy and that daily operations run smoothly.
Works on annual budget, assists with gathering information, and entering complex data into Cal Plan.
Applies professional financial and accounting concepts to independently perform analyses of moderately complex financial services such as researching discrepancies, answering specific funding questions, and doing multi year financial analysis.
Reviews, processes, and approves standardized financial data and transactions. Documents processes and procedures for financial activities.
Conducts or assists with researching, developing and implementing new and changing business processes.
Effectively addresses difficult and complex customer inquiries.
Ensures that the appropriate internal controls are addressed, maintained and strengthened to protect University resources.
Monitors the delivery of quality customer service to various constituencies to include internal department clients and external vendors.
Functions as a resource to support staff on issues such as researching financial discrepancies, escalated customer service problems and vendor concerns.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Working knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures.
Strong knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems.
Proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making.
Ability to function effectively as a member of a team.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Skills to provide coaching and mentoring to support staff.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $27.06-$36.83. This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week) non-exempt career position, which is paid bi-weekly and eligible for full UC Benefits.
Other Information
This position is eligible for 20% remote work eligibility after the initial six month probationary period has been fulfilled.
Your employment is dependent on obtaining and maintaining a credentialing clearance (if applicable), background clearance and medical clearance according to University Health Service policies.
