The University of Austin is looking to fill a key member of its executive team. The Chief Financial Officer
(CFO) is responsible for the fiscal health and fiscal reporting of the institution. The CFO’s responsibilities
will be to build a strong accounting and business team, guide the financial systems, oversee the financial and
business processes of the University, prepare financial planning and analysis, work with department heads to
develop budgets and projections, oversee the accuracy of financial reports and track cash flow. The CFO, as
the top-ranking fiscal officer, is a strategist and adviser. The CFO must have excellent communication skills.
Duties:
• Perform the University’s financial planning
• Develop and manage multi-year university budgets reflective of the strategic plan
• Manage the University’s credit card programs
• Recommend and manage University fiscal operating policies
• Manage out-sourced financial services with contractors
• Manage, coordinate, and approve University payroll
• Identify financial risk by analyzing the University’s liabilities and investments
• Recommend and implement prudent investment strategies by considering cash and liquidity risks
• Evaluate the impact of the University’s fundraising plans and capital structure
• Ensure cash flow is appropriate for the University’s operations
• Supervise all finance personnel
• Prepare accurate and reliable monthly current and forecasting fiscal reports
• Prepare and present financial reports to the board of trustees
• Oversee the University’s finance information technology systems and procedures
• Ensure financial compliance with applicable laws and University policies
• Manage University audits (IRS 990, independent financial audit) and liaison with external audit firm
• Work with regulatory and accrediting bodies to ensure reporting and compliance while developing
appropriate planning and accountability strategies
• Other responsibilities and duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related, CPA or CMA preferred
• 7 years; experience in accounting and financial reporting with payroll and accounts payable
• Experience in educational or non-profit setting
• Excellent interpersonal, team building with analytical skills
• Strong MS Office Suite and Google Suite skills
• Experience with Sage Intacct or other similar multi-dimension integrated accounting software
• Strong work ethic and self-starter
• Well-organized, proactive, and able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, quickly changing
environment
