The Human Resources Director will lead and manage the work of the HR Department and deliver proactive, efficient, and business-focused HR services to Company business units. They will provide HR advice, guidance and support to the supervisors and managers, and be the guardian of organizational culture and great employee experience.

Reports to: SVP of People & Operations, dotted line: President of business unit

Responsible: HR staff; Office Assistant

Location: Miami, FL

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Review, create and align the HR administration policies and procedures across organisations in the US and Bahamas
  • Oversee the recruitment process, in particular the following tasks 
    • Liaising with hiring manager, including preparation of job descriptions
    • Comp studies
    • Job posting and/or interface with recruiter
    • Candidate management
    • Where applicable, candidate screening and first line of selection
    • Interview coordination, including collating and presenting feedback from interviewers
    • Conducting reference and background checks
    • Responsible for offers, employment contracts, negotiation and hire process finalization (in conjunction with the hiring manager and relevant executives)
    • Perform all of the above tasks for senior leadership-level roles
  • Work closely with management to devise performance management processes. Lead the HR portion and liaise with the leadership team to deliver annual employee-related processes such as performance reviews, compensation reviews, benefits reviews, including market comp studies
  • Oversee the HR administration:
    • New starters
    • Leavers
    • All leave administration (vacation, sick leave, maternity leave, etc)
    • HRIS input, benefits administration
    • Employment confirmation letters and forms, as requested by employees
  • Prepare annual HR budgets and hiring projections
  • Develop and refine internal people-related policies that align with our organisational culture and way of doing business; creation of HR administration SOPs and templates.
  • Oversee and where applicable conduct employee onboarding – in collaboration with IT and department manager – IT and systems, communication and welcome, employee handbook, assistance with structured new employee training plans, etc.
  • Provide day to day HR support for employees and managers – questions on HR policies and procedures, handling comments or complaints, ensuring that employee life events such as bereavement, births, illnesses, etc. are acknowledged and appropriately handled.
  • Creation and updating of employee handbook
  • Coordination of employment related legal resources for the Bahamas and US
  • Negotiation of benefits, health insurance and other HR related contracts
  • Oversee administration of training through the Learning Management System
  • Oversee and where applicable conduct employee offboarding and exit interviews
  • Oversee and where applicable organization of employee events (baby showers, team lunches, holiday events, etc)
  • Work with heads of respective business units to design and support strategic HR processes, such as: 
    • Working closely with department heads, building competency profiles
    • Employee learning and development and succession planning
    • Serious HR and employee performance issues

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive experience of working at mid-senior HR leadership role (HR Director or Senior HR Business Partner) within multi-business unit organization – minimum 8 years
  • Track record of building excellent relationships and credibility with leaders and employees, based on a solid understanding of the business and HR best practice
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and driving on HR strategy/agenda with proven, measurable success
  • Sound knowledge, understanding and practical application of Bahamas and US employment law and HR best practice
  • Relevant HR or business-related degree or post-graduate qualification
  • Ability to collaborate effectively at all organizational levels, including senior executives
  • A consciously inclusive mindset, continuously fostering a culture where everyone can speak out and the ability to present and champion diverse points of view to senior leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as high level of integrity and resilience; purpose-driven mindset and ability to navigate through complexity of serving two different business units, maintaining uniformity where required and separation and a high degree of confidentiality when appropriate
  • Excellent spoken and written language skills; ability to write clear policies, procedures and manuals
  • Good numerical and analytical skills; knowing when and how to use data to inform decision-making
  • Demonstrable ability to roll up sleeves and get involved in a day to day work and detail, whilst keeping an eye on a bigger vision
