The Foundling’s Development team empowers others to support this lifechanging work, and to uplift the stories and voices of the people we serve to enact change that will benefit our shared community. 

The Foundling is looking for an ambitious and exceptionally organized Donor Relations Coordinator to join our 13-person Development team. Reporting to the Director of Individual and Corporate Giving, the Donor Relations Coordinator will play a key role in achieving the development goals for The New York Foundling and its affiliated charter school, Mott Haven Academy Charter School. This position serves as the lead on developing donor communications for the department while supporting the cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of individual donors and family foundations.

The Donor Relations Coordinator must be adept at personally building relationships, implementing donor tracking and communication systems, and helping to maintain an ongoing pipeline of donor prospects. The role supports our annual giving program, which includes large-scale mail and email campaigns. They must be able to think innovatively and creatively to drive donor communications and facilitate successful donor cultivation and solicitation.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Director of Individual and Corporate Giving (DICG) and other senior staff to administer and coordinate an overall donor relations strategy that supports short- and long-term fundraising goals;
• Develop key long-term relationships with individual donors through consistent personal outreach and accurate, timely reporting:
• Facilitate cultivation and stewardship activities with new and recurring donors via print and digital communication, phone calls, in-person meetings, special events, and on-site visits;
• Coordinate prospect research, proposals, and reports for major donors;
• Support front-line fundraisers in their work with their respective donor portfolios using a variety of tools, including the development database, donor analytics, dashboards, donor research, etc.;
• Conceptualize and spearhead the creation of print and digital donor-facing marketing materials;
• Other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working with high-profile individuals, including donors and trustees
• Bachelor’s degree required
• A people person with strong relationship-building skills and the ability to develop rapport with various types of people
• Excellent communication and writing skills with ability to persuasively articulate the mission, program objectives, impact, and funding needs for The Foundling and Haven Academy
• Flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team effort
• Demonstrated independent judgment, creative thinking, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to motivate and collaborate with senior staff and peers to meet ambitious goals
