The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. HJF is seeking a Research Assistant III to perform research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. Provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff. Solves problems of moderate complexity in carrying out research projects in a clinical or laboratory environment.

This position will be in support of Diagnostics and Countermeasures Branch (DCB)/Research, Assessment and Development laboratory (RAD). The incumbent will work in the Research, Assessment and Development laboratroy (RAD) in the Diagnostics and Countermeasures Branch (DCB), within the Center for Infectious Disease Research (CIDR) at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). The RAD laboratory evaluates, develops, validates and executes nucleic acid and serological based testing in support of clinical and research testing focused on the detection, quantification and/or speciation of, HIV, SARS C0V-2, blood borne infections, parasites, and other pathogens of US Military interest. The incumbent will perform and oversee all laboratory functions following DCB’s policies, procedures and quality management plan. He/She will perform and oversee the performance of Laboratory Developed Tests (LDT) and routine/specialized molecular tests in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices and CAP/CLIA/FDA regulatory agency requirements, as assays developed may be transferred to DCB’s CAP accredited HIV Diagnostics and Reference Laboratory (HDRL). The incumbent will manage day-to-day laboratory operations including direct staff oversite and will represent RAD in inter-department meetings.
