FUNCTION

As a Major Gifts Officer you will be the face of the organization for your portfolio of donors, inspiring them to reach their philanthropic goals. You will be tasked to develop plans, implement and track all steps leading to the greatest impact for our donors. You’ll be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our organization’s mission is key. You’ll be expected to energize team members, persuade prospects and inspire our top supporters to further invest in our work.

TOP RESPONSIBILITIES

• Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a meaningful relationship with our organization

• Manage portfolio of donors giving between $2,500 to $100,000 with a specific emphasis on donors giving between $2,500 and $10,000

• Maintain moves management for portfolio of donors including stewardship, cultivation, acknowledgments and solicitations

• Assist the prospecting effort of new major donors to the agency

• Manage asks for signature event sponsorships from Major Donors as well as capital campaigns as needed

• Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools

• Work with the development department to align efforts and set goals

• Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board and other staff with their solicitation (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications)

• Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition

• Keep detailed and timely donor records regarding relationships and moves management

• Track and report progress using specific metrics

• Meet all KPIs (number of meetings, number of solicitations etc.) agreed upon

• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

[ ] Masters Degree

Undergraduate degree in communications orrelated field is preferred and/or equivalent years of experience required.

TECHNICAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Computer knowledge and competent writing skills. Knowledge of Neon or equivalent software program required.

PREFERRED QUALITIES

The Major Gifts Officer must have strong fundraising experience developing and cultivating donors, proposals and donor reporting; Demonstrated excellence in organizational and communication skills required. Successful track record as Major Gift Officer required. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Ideal candidates will also have an understanding and connection of the LGBTQ community, the homeless community, or have worked with marginalized communities in the past. Transgender & gender non-conforming people and people of color are encouraged to apply.
