Salary: $110,000 - $113,000

The Associate Director, Major Gifts is a member of The Bowery Mission’s Development Team . As part of the Major Gifts Team within the larger Development Team , the Associate Director assists the Senior Director, Major Gifts & Development Operations (Interim) with the leadership of the annual strategic fundraising plan and goals to raise funds from major donors, midlevel donors, and legacy donors, in addition to supervisory responsibilities.

As a frontline fundraiser, the Associate Director, Major Gifts maximizes direct contact with major donors and major donor prospects, developing year-round, high-impact, and well-cultivated relationships within a clearly defined donor caseload. As a member of the Major Gifts team within the larger Development Team, the Associate Director, Major Gifts actively collaborates with team members to ensure each donor is engaged in appropriate and fruitful ways.

This position is a hybrid role . Full-time employees work 40 hours per week with the Associate Director, Major Gifts spending a minimum of 2-3 days per week onsite at our Tribeca office. Ability to travel within the NYC metro area, participate in donor-focused events held on evenings and weekends required.

Weekly schedule is Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm.

Reports toSenior Director, Major Gifts & Development Operations (Interim)

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Donor Engagement: Actively cultivate relationships with major donors and prospects, originating new connections, maintaining existing ones, and securing major gifts ($5,000 and above), applying the Taking Donors Seriously approach.
  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate closely with the Senior Director, Major Gifts & Development Operations (Interim) to provide strategic direction and oversight to our major gifts team and to develop new revenue-generating initiatives.
  • Professional Development: Participate in major gifts coaching sessions and external coaching opportunities to refine and enhance fundraising skills.
  • Team Collaboration: Work alongside the Senior Director, Major Gifts & Development Operations (Interim) and other caseload managers to develop and implement our annual strategy for Major Gifts.
  • Budgeting: Manage the annual budgeting process for major gifts revenue.
  • Team Leadership: Assist with planning and leadership of team meetings.
  • Organizational Representation: Represent The Bowery Mission professionally within our Development Team and seek opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise one to two Development Officers, meeting weekly for supervision and coaching, and participating in monthly supervisor meetings.

  • Strategic Planning: Experience in strategic planning and implementation within a development team and major gift fundraising context.
  • Team Leadership: Ability to lead and supervise a team effectively, contributing to a positive work environment.
  • Relationship Building: Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven track record of cultivating relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce or Raiser's Edge.
  • Collaboration: Ability to build trust and cooperate with others across teams to achieve shared objectives.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Embrace the organization’s Statement of Faith.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.
  • Minimum of seven years’ fundraising experience, direct sales experience, or transferrable skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a nonprofit setting.
  • Proficiency with CRM software such as Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or equivalent.
  • Strong networking skills and the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Confidence, diplomacy, and a genuine desire to engage high net-worth individuals and professionals for significant financial contributions.

 Salary commensurate with relevant education & experience: $110,000 to $113,000 per year
