The Role

The controls challenge in designing next generation cell manufacturing equipment include system control modeling on motion control, hydraulic system, thermal system, deep understand of stabilization control, trajectory tracking, disturbance rejection, advanced process control, MIMO design etc. The ideal candidate will have previous hands-on experience in modeling and control of with roll to roll system.

Responsibilities

• Research, design, simulate, specify, implement, debug, and test control and estimation algorithms for various electrical, mechanical, and thermal systems
• Work on using high level controls and modeling analytic tools to inform product development in terms of actuator, sensor and equipment design.
• Work collaboratively with responsible electrical, mechanical, metrology and firmware engineers to define sensing requirements, establish control system capabilities, and set targets
• Advance Tesla IP in control systems for new products

Requirements

• MS or Ph.D in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent of experience and evidence of exceptional abilities
• 3 years' experience with controls system research, development, modeling, and implementation (PLC, embedded system, server based control etc)
• Solid background in linear systems analysis and control design, process control, system identification
• Experience, understanding, and intuition for the physics of basic hydraulic control, fluid dynamics, motion control and heat transfer
• Creating dynamic models of electrical, mechanical and thermal systems
• Model development and data analysis in Matlab/Simulink or Scilab, GNU Octave
• Strong communication and preference for working in teams
• Familiarity with control of non-linear systems, adaptive control, robust control, iterative learning control
• Familiarity with PLC implementation, embedded system or server based control
