What to Expect
Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. This requires you to be extremely rigorous and to hold your designs to the highest standard of quality, reliability, and manufacturability.Our environment is fast-paced and incredibly exciting, so being passionate and self-motivated to push your limits is critical. Our team works with engineering groups across various disciplines, requiring strong communication skills and a team-first mentality.
What You'll Do
  • Design new parts and assemblies considering tradeoffs between cost, mechanical stresses, fluids, heat transfer, material compatibility, cost, speed of installation etc.
  • Evaluate equipment and equipment configurations using analytical and experimental methods
  • Develop fundamental based correlations leveraging process data to identify critical parameters and predict and improve performance
  • Prototype and validation designs prior to launching equipment to mass scale
  • Interact with vendors and contract manufactures ensuring that your designs are implemented according to your vision
  • Develop test setups and design experiments to learn about key equipment parameters and evaluate designs
  • Work with machine shops and fabricators to purchase and manufacture the designs
  • Utilize equipment and process knowledge to develop scale-up and scale-down relationships between different equipment sizes at different global factories
  • Collaborate with multidiscipline teams and across our global factories
What You'll Bring
  • Mechanical Design Experience: released designs to production (design could be a product or the equipment to manufacture the product)
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in most of the following areas: mechanics of materials, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, process engineering, mechanical design
  • Data analysis ability including scripting in python, matlab and statistical analysis.
  • Strong technical communication using data and engineering principles
  • Familiar with fabrication methods including: machining, rolling, welding, additive manufacturing, molding, extrusions
  • Nice to have: familiar with electric powertrains, electrochemical battery cells and battery systems
  • Software: Solidworks, Matlab, Microsoft Office, Python, Preferred: StarCCM , JMP, ANSYS
  • Education: BS or MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science Engineer.
  • Experience: 4 years of relevant work experience

Expected Compensation

$80,000 - $300,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
