Job Title: Business Development Representative

Reports to: Director of Business Development

Department: Business Development Status: Exempt

Job Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to identify, develop, and increase revenue and profitability with new and existing customers. To succeed in this role, a Business Development Representative must have strong communication and relationship-building skills and the ability to think strategically and make informed business decisions. A deep understanding of the construction material market and industry knowledge is key to success in this position. Other key skills and qualifications include analytical thinking, negotiation skills, relationship-building skills, prospecting and qualifying leads, and the ability to work collaboratively with other teams within the company.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Business Administration Degree, Marketing, Sales, or a related field and or experience or training equivalent.
  • Over three years of combined experience in construction-related sales, or business development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products, including spreadsheets and working with custom sales software systems.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with an aptitude for dealing with various personalities.
  • Demonstrate a relationship-based sales approach, with a proven ability to work well with others and provide clear direction.
  • Candidates with a proven track record of generating leads, building relationships, and driving revenue growth are preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to regularly travel to branch locations as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Increase revenue by generating new sales leads through various channels such as cold-calling, email marketing, social media outreach, and networking events.
  • Build relationships by developing and maintaining relationships with potential and existing clients through regular communication, follow-ups, and building customer intimacy.
  • Gather and report information regarding the company, competitors, pricing, products, and current and future market trends to leadership.
  • Collaborate with the sales team by working closely with the sales team to generate and handoff of leads and provide necessary information and insights to close sales.
  • Communicate customer orders with City Desk, Account Management, and Warehouse team.
  • Relay new product information to customers and provide demos as necessary.
  • Track, bid, and follow through on competitive quotations to customers.
  • Participate in trade shows and business development opportunities to network with existing and prospective customers as well as vendors and company partners.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks effectively and delegate as necessary.
  • Ensures compliance and safety measures are consistently followed.
  • Partners with Purchasing Team, Operations, Accounting, and Marketing related to the overall success of Tenet’s Business objectives.
  • Support and promote Tenet’s Mission, Vision, Values, Employee Operating Code

  • Sales and marketing knowledge: Understanding of sales and marketing principles, including lead generation, pipeline management, and effective communication.
  • Industry knowledge: Understanding of the construction industry including trends, competition, and market dynamics.
  • Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling messaging and presentations.
  • Interpersonal skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport with potential clients, maintain relationships, and collaborate with internal teams.
  • Organization and time management: Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage leads, appointments, and follow-up activities effectively.
  • Analytics and reporting: Ability to analyze data and track progress against sales targets and goals. Experience with CRM software and sales automation tools is beneficial.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to identify and solve problems quickly and effectively, including finding creative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Motivation and drive: High level of motivation, self-starter mentality, and a goal-oriented mindset.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and remain flexible in a dynamic environment.
