TARC is Hiring a Staff Accountant I Near LOUISVILLE, KY

This position is on-site. We currently do not offer hybrid or remote work for this role.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs professional accounting work related to the maintenance of TARC’s accounting records and the preparation of associated ledgers, journals, and reports; tracks all fixed assets. This position will support a safety and customer service culture through programs, procedures, and other related work to achieve TARC’s mission and strategic outcomes. The position is responsible for meeting or exceeding all TARC policies and procedures with strict adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations; and performing related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyzes and prepares varied financial information; reconciles monthly general ledger accounts.
  • Performs internal audits.
  • Reviews accounting and financial documents to ensure the accuracy of information and calculations; makes corrections of entries.
  • Reconciles the general ledger, journal entries, subsidiary accounts, and bank statements.
  • Examines supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with agreements, contracts, and state and federal regulations.
  • Oversees fixed assets; enters fixed assets into the appropriate database(s) when purchased; sends bar codes to appropriate departments; records movement of fixed assets; tracks fixed assets that are not purchased with capital dollars. 
  • Performs various administrative functions, processing mail, sending out various weekly and monthly reports, and assisting with other administrative duties as needed.
  • Provide backup for other Accounting positions as necessary.
  • Assists with Accounts Payable invoice entry, resolution to outstanding invoice issues, communicates with vendors, and provides reconciliation assistance to departments.
  • Assists with data entry and reconciliations for Grant accounts.
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field; 
  • Two (2) years of professional-level experience performing accounting duties.

Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the above-stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Principles, practices, and terminology of general, fund, and governmental accounting. 
  • Principles and practices of business data processing, particularly as related to the processing of accounting information.
  • Applicable laws regulating public fiscal operations.
  • Research and reporting methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Various federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations relevant to the work performed.
  • Principles and practices of customer service.
  • Principles and techniques for working with groups and fostering effective team interaction to ensure teamwork is conducted smoothly.
  • The structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program, project, and task coordination.
  • Computers and software programs (e.g., Microsoft software packages) to conduct research, assess information, and/or prepare documentation.
  • Analyze, balance review, interpret, and reconcile financial reports and transactions.
  • Verify the accuracy of financial data and information.
  • Ensure proper authorization and documentation for disbursements and other transactions.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and complete financial reports and statements.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using appropriate English grammar and syntax.
  • Prepare clear and concise correspondence and reports.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of business, including TARC employees, government entities, contractors, and members of the public.
  • Effectively use computer systems, applications, and modern business equipment to perform a variety of work tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Incumbents generally work in a typical office environment with adequate light and temperature. There may be occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noise, fumes, noxious odors, dust, mist, gases, and poor ventilation; must be able to see, hear and speak; and sit at a desk for long periods of time. Work may require some level of mobility including lifting or moving materials. Incumbents may interact with upset staff and/or members of the public in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
