Location: Avon Park, FL Category: Professional Posted On: Mon Sep 11 2023 Job Description:

Full-time, year-round position to provide coordination, supervision, management and oversight for the operation of SFSC's Dental Education department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and coordinates the accreditation process for the Dental Education programs.
    a. Prepares self-studies.
    b. Plans and coordinates site visit.
    c. Conducts on-going program outcomes assessment.
  • Develops program curriculum and revises as appropriate.
    a. Meets and plans with the Dean, Health Sciences and faculty members responsible for Dental Hygiene program and Dental Assistant program and continuing education.
    b. Guides the revision and development of course outlines; submits suggested outlines for group approval.
    c. Monitors curriculum of all programs under the rules and regulations of the Board of Dentistry, American Dental Association, and Commission of Dental Accreditation agencies.
    d. Collaborates with faculty on text-book selections.
  • Plans and coordinates all programs in the department.
    a. Manages the Dental Hygiene clinic.
    b. Submits course planning sheets and course schedules at the appropriate times.
    c. Ensures that full-time and adjunct faculty are appropriately certified and contracted.
  • Assists with departmental staffing.
    a. Makes hiring recommendations for staffing to administration.
    b. Prepares requests for advertising positions, providing suggestions for appropriate text and placement.
    c. Interviews candidates applying for staff positions.
    d. Provides orientation to the new dental faculty.
    e. Evaluates faculty professional staff.
    f. Provides for distribution of instructional load to faculty as per college procedure.
    g. Facilitates faculty involvement in departmental programs, committees and other activities.
  • Teaches courses in the Dental Education program as required. (Teaching assignments must exceed 264 hours per year to be eligible for overload pay.)
  • Participates in budget planning and managing.
    a. Presents proposals for budget planning.
    b. Attends meetings for budget planning and review.
    c. Monitors the current budget and submits amendments as necessary.
  • Develops plans for the recruitment of students and is actively involved in selection and placement of students.
    a. Applies the entrance requirements for all programs.
    b. Works with Director, Institutional Communications to prepare program brochures.
    c. Works with the College Recruiter to plan and carry out strategies for recruitment into the programs such as: developing surveys, writing informational communications, participating in career programs.
    d. Counsels with prospective students.
    e. Reviews credentials of applicants and helps in the selection of students.
  • Assists in the selection, organization, and coordination of clinical learning experiences for students in Dental Education programs.
    a. Visits and evaluates the participating dental affiliates.
    b. Prepares and activates a formal agreement with each of the health agencies used as clinical sites for student experience.
    c. Assures students meet facility requirements.
  • Participates in the administrative functions of the College.
    a. Chairs meetings with Dental Education faculty and staff.
    b. Attends meetings such as: Chairperson, Faculty, Staff, Curriculum, and Board meetings.
    c. Actively participates in college committee work.
    d. Attends and coordinates dental ceremonies; attends necessary college ceremonial and social functions.
  • Reviews and recommends teaching materials.
    a. Periodically reviews and updates the Learning Resource holdings.
    b. Looks for and reviews new textbooks.
    c. Monitors the inventory of audiovisual materials and maintains current resources.
  • Maintains responsibility for equipment and supplies for the department.
    a. Recommends the purchase of equipment and supplies.
    b. Ensures that the dental facility is maintained appropriately.
    c. Keeps a current inventory record of equipment and materials.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled Advisory Committee meetings and implements the recommendations of the committee when appropriate.
  • Responsible for coordinating, documenting, and implementing all unit action planning, outcomes assessment, and institutional effectiveness efforts within the scope of administrative supervision.
  • Monitors and promotes progress toward meeting the goals and objectives of the College's Equity Update report.
  • Acts as a Campus Security Authority (CSA)/responsible person for Title IX and Clery Act compliance. Must participate in all required CSA/responsible person training.
  • Acts in accordance with college policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:


Educational:
Minimum of a Master's degree required. Must be a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) who is a graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or a dentist who has a current unencumbered license to practice in Florida. A doctoral degree in dental or related field preferred.

If a hygienist must have Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) and Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credentials.

Experiential: Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in clinical practice as either a dental hygienist or a dentist working with a dental hygienist. If a dentist, must have a license to practice in Florida. Related administrative/management experience preferred.
