Medical Assistant – Signature Orthopedics
Position Summary:
This position performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities in a matter that places emphasis on quality of care and customer service. The medical assistant maintains professional relationships with patients and their representatives and with medical staff while upholding clinic guidelines and maintaining strict patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
· Escort patients to exam rooms, takes patient histories, accurately measure vital signs, including weight, height and blood pressure and carefully document in patient’s chart
· Assist physician in exam rooms
· Dressing changes/wound assessments. Staple and suture removal as needed.
· Triage patient calls, schedule MRI, surgeries, physical therapy and any other testing directed by physician
· Must be competent in brace/cast application and removal
· Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant
· Prepares charts for upcoming clinics. Ensure all related reports are available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment.
· Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization as required
· Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls
· Promote infection prevention by complying with all policies for hand hygiene, environmental cleanliness and appropriate storage. Universal precautions must be understood and followed
· Responsible for autoclave, sanitizing/sterilization of equipment
· Follow HIPAA guidelines to ensure proper confidentiality guidelines are followed
· All other duties as assigned by clinical supervisor
Skills & Qualifications:
Required:
· High school diploma or GED equivalent required
Preferred:
· Prior MA experience (preferably Orthopedics/Podiatry)
· Medical assistant certification (if applicable)
· Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette
· Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
· Basic Knowledge of physician office operations and Orthopedic medical terminology.
· Proficient in any EMR system.
