Showa Boston Institute is Hiring a Human Resources Manager Near Jamaica, MA

Background

Showa Boston Institute for Language and Culture is a residential academic institution for about 300 students established by Showa Women's University in Tokyo in 1988. Its mission is to increase students' English proficiency, to develop their cross-cultural awareness, and to foster their personal growth. The 40-acre campus rests on a hilltop overlooking the Boston skyline. At the heart of the campus are administrative offices, residences, a dining hall, and educational facilities.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Business Officer and working with the leadership of the Institute, the Human Resources Manager will design and implement human resources strategies and perform all human resources-related work to ensure that the Institution’s mission is upheld in its practices and people. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record as a solo human resources generalist with expertise in relationship management both internally as well as externally with candidates and vendors, human resources information systems, and extensive visa documentation.

Essential Job Functions

· With the Business Officer, define human resources department goals; perform all human resources functions accordingly and recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to introduce best practices and effect continuous improvement.

· Follow hiring procedures that best fit the Institute’s mission and conform with human resources best practices. With department directors, write job descriptions, recruit, review resumes, schedule interviews, and check references for staff positions. Assist with faculty and administrator hiring as appropriate. Ensure that all pre-employment checks are completed accurately. Confirm that visas and contracts are legal and appropriately documented.

· Implement personnel policies and procedures; update and maintain the Employee Handbook to reflect current practices and new laws and regulations and follow records retention guidelines.

· Perform benefits administration to include: coordinating relationships with vendors, annual re-evaluation of policies, compliance with all new laws and regulations, required legal and employee benefits reporting, employee education and enrollment, claims resolution, support for the annual pension audit, and verifying the accuracy of invoices for payment.

· Assist the Business Officer and other administrators in resolving personnel matters and employee relations issues; provide employee relations support.

· Conduct or organize training, including new employee training, benefits education programs, safety programs, data security training, and other training as necessary.

· Conduct exit interviews and manage benefits documents for terminating employees.

· Maintain employee files before, during, and after employment, segregating all HIPAA-related documents.

· Onboard new hires or terminate employees in our payroll system

· Maintain employees records in our payroll system

· Perform other duties as assigned by the Business Officer

· This job description can be modified at any time as needed

Requirements

· 3-5 years of Human Resources experience with evidence of increasing responsibility and 3 years of Human Resources generalist experience.

· Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification preferred

· Expertise in HRIS technology and database management.

· Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel – Pivot tables, V-lookups etc.).

· The ability to cultivate and build superior relationships with all employees and applicants

· Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels and Cultural sensitive.

· An open and collaborative style.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· A strong commitment to education.

· Creative ability, a positive outlook, and a sense of humor.

· A high level of integrity and a strong work ethic.

· Successful completion of a criminal records background check
