Scaleup is Hiring a Business Development Manager Near Charlotte, NC

Role Description
Scaleup seeks a driven, passionate, and resourceful team player to develop and execute customer innovation initiatives. The ideal candidate will have experience working within B2B environments, preferably technology ecosystems, with a desire to support equity and economic mobility for diverse-owned businesses.

This role will develop, manage, and execute Scaleup’s programs and toolkits that support the growth of small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with the desire and potential to achieve $100M in annual revenue. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business development, sales, product development, and customer support to meet customer needs and business objectives.

Key focuses include attracting, growing, and supporting SMBs, as well as working with enterprise partners on economic equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives. We are open to hiring candidates based in the Eastern Time Zone, with preference to those in the Charlotte, NC, and Atlanta, GA, metro areas. Some travel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with SMB owners and leadership teams that have been identified as “high scaling potential” by F500 enterprise customers.
  • Strategize and implement business development initiatives that accelerate growth for SMBs at a pace faster than the business could accomplish alone; evaluate and assess strengths and weaknesses of SMBs to make growth-centered recommendations; and analyze data to determine an SMB’s growth trajectory and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with centers of influence in the supplier diversity, procurement, diverse business, and startup communities.
  • Prepare and present Scaleup’s strategy and approach to business owners, entrepreneurs, strategic partners, and other stakeholders during relevant meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Scope and create project plans, develop processes, drive execution, and report learnings and effectiveness to internal stakeholders; provide visibility to the milestones and performance across all projects.
  • Create and drive the adoption the adoption of Scaleup’s toolkit of programming and mechanisms to provide SMBs with access to capital, customers, and capacity-building resources; partner with customers, internal and external teams, and strategic partners to develop programs, workshops, and assets designed to increase exposure and access for SMBs to needed information and concepts required to quickly and effectively scale.
  • Solve ambiguous problems and proactively identify and mitigate risks before they become roadblocks.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to communicate and drive critical business initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Ability to implement and execute strategies capable of advancing the startup and SMB ecosystem with a specific focus on diverse entrepreneurs.
  • Experience researching and using data and metrics to determine and drive strategic business improvements.
  • Ability to think strategically about priorities and make data- driven decisions. Ability to review, interpret and disseminate information and make recommendations.
  • Experience or proven ability to own program strategy, end-to-end delivery, and communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation skills and an ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to business communities.
  • A strong ability to build and maintain professional relationships across stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a sometimes ambiguous startup environment; demonstrated ability to work within and navigate unstructured entrepreneurial and/or intrapreneurial environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; MBA; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which equips the applicant with knowledge, skills and abilities described above.
  • Experience in customer service, sales, marketing, finance or related fields is a plus.
