Business Development Manager (Government Lighting Sales)
Job Description:
Section I. General Overview & Reporting:
The Lighting Sales Rep provides a consultative sales role in working with commercial electrical and general contractors to provide lighting solutions for their projects. This position requires the development of new prospects and interactions to increase sales of our organization's products and/or services to government agencies. This position reports to the VP/General Manager.
Section II. Duties & Areas of Responsibility:
The primary duties of the Lighting Sales Rep consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
· Providing a consultative sales approach with business partners (primarily government customers) in providing lighting solutions for their commercial/ industrial projects
· Developing and maintaining solid relationships with all business partners, internal/external customers, and vendors
· Quote/Proposal preparation, and follow up to include:
o Obtaining requirements
o Working alternatives or value engineering options, when required
o Negotiations with the customer
o Closing the initial sale
· Project management to include:
o Coordinating w/internal and external stakeholders on initial order placement
o Coordinating internal company activities in the fulfillment of the project goals
o Participating in internal project meetings and project site meetings, where applicable
o Providing continual & timely, project-related communication to customers, business partners, and internal departments to ensure project timelines are met
o Maintaining close contact with the customer to proactively address issues or changes in scope
· Post Sales Activity to include
o Investigating and resolving customer issues
o Assisting w/warranty issues
o Coordinating returns, replacement, or repair of defective materials
· Showroom sales
o Provide backup to inside sales (showroom), when needed
· Other duties, as assigned
· Section III: Necessary Skills and Attributes:
· 3 years experience with consultative sales with electrical contractors, government contractors or closely related construction building materials industries
· Previous lighting product sales experience, preferred
· Solid base of contacts within the electrical contractor or government contractor fields
· Experience with visiting customer locations, construction jobsites and following required safety protocols
· Proven experience working with commercial business partners
· Excellent self motivation and initiative
· Outstanding customer service skills
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Strong time management, planning and organizational skills
· Ability to assess and prioritize (with flexibility to change course as needed)
· Excellent interpersonal, and collaborative skills
· Proven problem resolution and decision-making skills
· Professional demeanor and appearance
· Solid Microsoft Office skills (Word & Excel)
· Ability to learn products, solutions & processes quickly
· ERP experience helpful (P21)
· Ability to work well both independently, and in team settings
· Professional personal vehicle for jobsite visits (expenses to be reimbursed)
Section IV: Physical Requirements:
· Ability to drive a vehicle safely
· Visual acuity required to read computer screens, written documents, inspect materials, products, drive, etc.
· Ability to speak and hear on the phone
· Must be able to work sitting, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, and in squatting position
· Manual dexterity required for computer work, to handle materials, supplies, etc.
· Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
· Ability to visit construction jobsites (non-climate controlled sites, climbing, etc.)
