Grants

Terms of • 230 days per year. FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Employment: • At-Will employment agreement.

  • Salary is in the pay grade N09 on the Non-
Exempt SAISD Compensation Plan.
  • Entry hourly rate is at $18.50 with consideration
for directly related experience.

Job Scope
Performs routine work and applies minimal independent judgement and familiarity of the field to perform work.
Adheres closely to established policies and procedures to complete tasks. May be responsible for administration
of low complexity departmental programs.

Position Summary
The Grant Specialist is responsible for securing and managing external funding to support organizational initiatives
aimed at improving the academic performance of all SAISD students. This position performs a wide variety of pre-
and post- award grant functions to include research, coordination, and development activities for funding
application proposals, preparing necessary documentation and correspondence, developing, and writing
proposals, and performing administrative support tasks.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

1. Provides support with drafting proposal narratives including needs, objectives, performance measures
and budgets on behalf of district-wide initiatives and individual campuses.

2. Assists with researching, articulating and disseminating grant opportunities to relevant SAISD
departments.

3. Participates in the administration of the grant management database, AmpliFund, to monitor post-award
grant activities.

4. Assists the SAISD Foundation's grant writing and reporting needs to charitable funders and corporations
as well as communicate grant related information back to the District Grants Director.

5. Coordinates with internal and external partners throughout the grant development, submission, and
monitoring process.

6. Assists Grant Managers with monitoring and meeting programmatic goals and milestones with approved
grant proposal applications via AmpliFund technical assistance and regular check-ins.

7. Assists with updating basic grant related administrative procedures, toolkits, presentations, and grant
related communications in collaboration with the District Grants Director.

8. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities

expected for this position.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or 4 years equivalent experience.
  • Up to 2 years progressive experience in managing complex grant portfolios and Advertising, marketing, or
public relations experience to promote programs to potential funding entities.
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee
(approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 2 years progressive experience in managing complex grant portfolios and Advertising, marketing, or
public relations experience to promote programs to potential funding entities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of trends, processes, and ethics in grant writing.
  • Ability to communicate succinctly and persuasively in written and verbal form.
  • Knowledge of educational issues and instructional programs.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national foundation and corporate grants.
  • Knowledge of software, and applications to develop narratives, graphics, tables, and spreadsheets
(Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Power Point).
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet established deadlines.
  • Proven track record of success in securing private sector grant awards, and knowledge of electronic grant
submissions.

Working Conditions
Work Environment:

  • Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and
equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
  • Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional
exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.

Physical Demands/Requirements:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines and prolonged or
irregular hours; Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; Occasional: Lifting
and carrying 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with
assistance; Pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically; May be required under specific circumstances to
provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others; Frequent
districtwide and occasional statewide travel.
