Essential FunctionsJob SummaryFunction: To support VPREDKE and University Communications and Marketing's strategic goals relative to UTSA's research, economic development, and knowledge enterprise, by producing and delivering compelling multimedia stories including, but not limited to, content for journalism, videography, photography, social media and website.
Scope: Responsible for contributing to department's multimedia strategy and executing that strategy through the creation and delivery of multimedia
DutiesTypical:
- Assist in the development of a comprehensive digital content strategy that supports the university's research brand, reputation and vision.
- Develop a social media plan including goals, strategies, tactics and budget to communicate the UTSA brand and its research outreach mission.
- Produce and deliver compelling written editorial content, within prescribed deadlines, to support UTSA's home page, landing pages, reputational web pages, news channels and special projects designed to increase awareness of UTSA research nation-wide.
- Provide creative, editorial and technical direction to peers and/or staff as needed to complete department's multimedia goals, projects and editorial plans.
- Provide event-related social media support as needed.
- Oversee comprehensive content archives for use by media and university stakeholders.
- Research Web, multimedia and social media trends and best practices.
- Regularly propose content on university's official social media channels that elevates the university's research brand and reputation.
- Monitor, analyze and report on Web and social media engagement.
- Supervise work-studies, interns and student employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Periodic:
- Counsel UTSA faculty and staff on multimedia best practices and strategy.
- Work, as needed, outside of business hours, including evenings, holidays or weekends.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, video production, graphic design, English or a related field.
- Four years of professional video production, video/social media management, written journalism or closely related experience.
- An understanding of organizational branding and its importance.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of Web, multimedia and social media strategies, including measurement and evaluation.
- The ability to successfully and independently plan and manage projects at the strategic and operational levels, within prescribed deadlines.
- Exceptional research, writing and fact-checking skills.
- Exceptional judgment and creativity.
- Demonstrated experience in digital equipment and software.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and standard office equipment.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Valid Class A driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications- Five years of professional, academic social media management, written and video journalism or closely related experience.
- Experience with national-level marketing and communication of research accomplishments, preferably at a higher education institution or national laboratory.
- Experience at a media outlet, broadcast news station or higher education institution.
- Working knowledge of desktop publishing, graphic design and website maintenance software/tools.
- Spanish-speaking.
Working Conditions- Works both indoors and outdoors at a variety of campus locations.
- Some off-campus work may be required.
This position will be primarily located:
Hybrid-Regularly: This position will require working both remotely and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
