Salary: Up to $150,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Hours: 40 hours per week, exempt.

Essential Functions
The Executive Director of Energy Management at UTSA plays a pivotal role in advancing the university's commitment to environmental stewardship, resource efficiency, and sustainable practices. This leadership position is instrumental in driving strategic initiatives that contribute to UTSA's mission of fostering a greener and more sustainable campus community.
Core Responsibilities
Departmental Management:
  • Develop, execute and maintain a comprehensive energy and sustainability strategy aligned with UTSA's goals and values.
  • Provide visionary leadership to inspire and mobilize stakeholders towards sustainable practices.
  • Collaborate with leadership in all functional areas within RPM to collectively provide departmental vision and set goals.
Operational Efficiency:
  • Oversee the implementation of energy-efficient technologies and practices across campus facilities.
  • Collaborate with departments to optimize resource consumption and reduce the university's environmental footprint.
  • Proficient in campus planning principles, building standards, and sustainability practices to foster a vibrant and sustainable campus environment.
  • Systems Analysis. Systems analysis refers to understanding how a system should work and how changes in it will impact results.
  • Systems Evaluation. Sustainability professionals must determine indicators of system performance and the actions required to enhance performance.
Policy and Compliance:
  • Stay abreast of local, state, and federal regulations related to energy and sustainability.
  • Ensure UTSA's adherence to relevant policies and proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with external organizations, government agencies, and industry leaders in the energy and sustainability sectors.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to foster sustainability among students, faculty, and staff.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Develop and implement systems for collecting and analyzing energy consumption data.
  • Prepare regular reports on key performance indicators and progress towards sustainability goals.
Resource Management:
  • Manage budgetary resources efficiently, seeking cost-effective solutions for sustainable initiatives.
  • Identify and pursue grant opportunities to fund energy and sustainability projects.
Grant Identification:
  • Proactively research and identify grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other sources.
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals, ensuring alignment with UTSA's sustainability goals and objectives.
Innovation and Research:
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and innovations in energy and sustainability.
  • Foster innovation, encouraging research initiatives that contribute to the advancement of sustainable practices.
Public Relations:
  • Serve as a spokesperson for UTSA on energy and sustainability matters.
  • Engage with the media and public to communicate the university's commitment to environmental responsibility.
Staff Development and Leadership:
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the Asset Management team.
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages professional growth.
  • Identify and nurture talent to build a strong and capable team.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architectural, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field and 10 years of progressive experience specific to energy and sustainability or related field. A master's degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, or a related and/or licensed professional engineer may substitute for 2 years of required experience.
  • Proven leadership experience in developing and implementing sustainability programs.
  • Strong understanding of energy management, conservation, and renewable energy technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and financial management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective partnerships.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and certifications in the sustainability field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced master's degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, or a related and/or licensed professional engineer.

Working Conditions
Working Environment:
  • Occasional office environment, with the ability to telecommute or apply a flex work schedule.
  • Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.
  • Occasionally attend meetings and training off-site and out of town.
  • After hours and weekend work is required on an occasional basis.
Physical Demands:
  • Sedentary office work; sitting - routinely.
  • Lifting and exerts up to 10 lbs. of force - occasionally.
This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
