Job Title: Electrician Department: Physical Plant Job Description: Rhodes College seeks an Electrician to perform skilled journey-level work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical circuitry and equipment. Job Requirements: High school graduation or GED equivalency, preferred. Five years work experience in electrical field, required. Memphis/Shelby County journeyman electrician’s license, required. This position requires a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier. Job Responsibilities: Installs, repairs, and replaces electrical circuits, lighting, distribution panels, feeder cables, circuit breakers, switches, rough-ins, trim-outs, etc. Changes light bulbs and tubes and replaces light fixtures. Performs hazardous work in connecting fuses, change over switches, gears, starting controls, electrical motors, compressors, and high voltage lighting. Checks and replaces computer cables, telephone lines, and light ballasts. Bends conduits of various sizes using manual and hydraulic benders and mathematical formulae. Maintains underground high voltage primary distribution system including cable, transformers, and switches. Installs, services, and troubleshoots DDC and various other types of HVAC controls associated with a campus-wide energy management system. Other duties as assigned. Regular attendance is an essential function to perform the duties of this position. Physical Demands: Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Exposure to extreme heat, noise, chemicals, fumes, dust. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Exposure to extreme cold and heat, noise, chemicals, fumes, dust.
