Our mission is to create economic transformation. By training low-income adults to launch and advance careers as software engineers, we help our Fellows go from earning $18,000 to over $90,000 starting salary on average, adding an estimated $2M in lifetime earnings. Pursuit partners with leading companies like Blackstone, USV, Citi, Peloton, and Uber to employ Fellows in career-defining engineering roles and supports them with on-the-job training to ensure potential translates to performance. Since 2013, Pursuit has created ~$1B in total lifetime wage gains, creating lasting economic mobility that spans generations. 

Pursuit’s proven solution is built on two interconnected components: training (which includes community development, Core pre-job training, and Commit on-the-job training) and a financial product (known as Bond). However, growing training alone will not meet the magnitude of need nor solve new societal challenges ahead. The typical expectation is to expand our training to other cities, but this will not come anywhere close to creating good jobs for millions of low-income Americans. Instead, our strategy for scaled impact is to evolve our financial product and create tools for other organizations, jobs, and places. We believe that this will not only create good jobs for millions of low-income Americans but will also generate a new trillion-dollar market directly tied to results in the long term.

About the role:

The Strategic Proposal Writer will play a pivotal role in advancing Pursuit's ambitious fundraising objectives by producing high-quality proposals, impact reports, and additional partner-facing materials with a primary focus on direct revenue solicitation. In this capacity, you will work closely with members of the Partnerships and Leadership teams to conceptualize and craft compelling proposals and presentations to secure funding from a diverse range of sources, including foundations, impact investors, corporations, and government agencies. This strategic position is critical to Pursuit's efforts to attain our 5-year revenue targets, expand our programs, and facilitate economic transformation for a greater number of high-need individuals in New York.

Key Responsibilities:

• Craft precise and impactful language to describe Pursuit’s suite of product offerings for different fundraising campaigns, including:
• Philanthropy
• Employer Sales
• Social Impact Jobs Bond
• Draft, revise, and submit strategic proposals, pitch decks, and related materials to effectively communicate Pursuit's value proposition.
• Participate in strategy meetings with the broader Partnerships Team and Leadership Team to conceptualize proposals to current and prospective strategic partners.
• Translate outcomes of strategy meetings into compelling proposals and presentations tailored for a range of stakeholders, including foundations, government agencies, corporations, and impact investors.
• Craft winning proposals for a variety of funders and revenue opportunities to meet your individual targets. 
• Collaborate with the CEO, CCO, and account/opportunity owners to understand partner objectives and tailor key messages to specific audiences.
• Support the CEO and account owners in external partner meetings.

Requirements:

• Experience crafting written proposals and presentations to win revenue or philanthropic funds specifically as a Grant Writer, Business Proposal Strategist, or a similar role
• Ability to adapt writing tone and style to match brand voice and audience
• Experience adjusting tone and content for different target stakeholders across a spectrum of audiences
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Ability to understand and synthesize complex ideas into digestible language for target audiences
• Outcomes-driven; demonstrated experience driving projects forward with limited guidance.
• Flexible and scrappy; Able to adapt as needed to shifting priorities

Nice to have:

• Experience in impact, business development, tech, government, and/or philanthropy
• Understanding of nonprofits, social impact missions, or social entrepreneurship
• Experience using Salesforce or other CRMs to manage accounts and opportunities

Where you’ll work: 

Hybrid: 2 days a week in-person in our HQ in Long Island City and 3 days remotely wherever you work best.

Salary & Benefits:

The salary range for this role is $90,000 - $110,000 base incentive compensation.

The compensation range above is for the expectations as laid out in the job description, however, we are often open to a wide variety of profiles and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. If that ends up being the case, the updated salary range will be communicated to you as a candidate.
