Purpose:

The Banquet Captain is responsible for delivering an exceptional experience to banquet guests by efficiently organizing and coordinating banquet staffing, set-up, service and breakdown for all banquet functions in accordance with brand and company standards. They will deliver outstanding food and drink service at hotel banquet functions and make sure function space visually appealing and present the menu offering for the event. This may include linen and table setting, food station design, and beverage service. Other duties include general banquet preparation, room refreshes, and maintaining a sanitary environment. In addition, the Banquet Captain will have full responsibility for managing all day-to-day banquet operations, demonstrating a proactive approach to securing adequate supplies, maintaining equipment in good repair, and continuously seeking for more efficient and effective ways to provide consistent and desirable banquet events.

Essential Functions:

• Understand Banquet Event Orders to safely, efficiently set up and break down events using in-room clearing and aisle tray breakdown buffet procedures.
• Help Lead Banquet Server set up and break down buffet or other special food service tables and equipment.
• Efficiently complete prep and side work to enable focused guest care and maintain an orderly, clean station during events.
• Must be able to handle a variety of guest service situations professionally in a manner consistent with company standards.
• Actively participate in Banquet Order Event meetings; review all banquet orders timely and routinely to ensure a complete understanding of guest needs; ensure appropriate staff, equipment and supplies are on hand to satisfy guest needs
• Provide friendly, professional guest service with genuine care.
• Be familiar with menu offerings in order to entice guests with its ingredients and preparations.
• Respond promptly, courteously and effectively to guest inquiries, requests, and concerns. Know when to alert a manager, should the need arise.
• Ability to take initiative, creatively problem-solve, and exercise good judgment.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent; Additional education, training, and/or certification(s) a plus. A minimum of two to three (2-3) years of hotel banquet food and beverage experience. ServSafe certified or equivalent.
