JOB SUMMARY:
The Pathology Support Manager is responsible for management and oversight of the activities of the hospital pathology support teams including but not limited to maintaining and evaluating personnel, quality assurance, workload and production, procedures and inspections, obtaining and maintaining equipment and supplies, and managing day to day functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage the employee hiring process including developing and updating job descriptions, developing performance expectations, identifying essential functions and knowledge, skills and abilities required for applicable positions, and selecting and assigning staff.
Complete new employee orientation, training and continuing education.
Evaluate and maintain effective training programs.
Manage employee performance by coaching, counseling, motivating, and evaluating employees on a continual basis. Implement disciplinary action as needed and in consultation with HR.
Supervise/manage employee and team performance including coordinating activities, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees. Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals. Continuously monitor and evaluate departmental operations and work flow, making changes as needed.
Ensure effective employee relations by sustaining an ethical, non-discriminatory and safe work environment and establishing effective communication lines and methods. Identify and solve employee problems, manage conflict, and respond to grievances as needed.
Exercise and ensure staff adheres to all laboratory safety precautions and to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
Monitor and maintain Turn-Around-Time, Quality Assurance, and Production.
Develop and edit procedures for Standard Practice, Technical or Quality Control Manuals. Review procedure manuals and stay current with procedural changes that have occurred.
Develop and maintain good relationships with customers, physicians, colleagues, and suppliers in order to ensure customer satisfaction and integration of business processes to meet their needs.
Assist with departmental workload when needed.
Monitor and ensure proper maintenance of equipment, and documentation of charts/logs.
Monitor and ensure maintenance of inventory of supplies. Store supplies in proper location and keep a clean work area.
Responsible for proper disposal and handling of hazardous waste to include xylene recycling (i.e. xylene, reagent alcohol, formaldehyde, B5) and dispose of specimens according to procedures.
Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
Abide by all regulatory, company and departmental regulations, policies and procedures, including the Corporate Compliance Program.
Contribute to a positive work climate and to the team effort of the department and company.
Support PathGroup's mission, vision, goals and management decisions.
Become familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.
EDUCATION & LICENSURE:
Associates degree in a related field is preferred.
REQUIREMENTS:
Two to four years of prior health care environment job-related experience is required.
Management experience is preferred
Medical laboratory experience required.
