Description

Job Title: Manager Labor Relations

Job Code: 105103

Job Summary
This position will require active involvement in negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements, providing advice to business units and leaders and representing the company in multiple forums, arbitrations and administrative agency matters. This position will work closely with the Director, Labor Relations to ensure the consistent application of labor relations practices and policies set under the NiSource Labor Relations Strategy. Additionally, this role will manage a team of labor relation experts who will support the administration of the various collective bargaining agreements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partners closely with Director, Labor Relations on the planning, execution and day-to-day administration of labor relations programs and practices
  • Manages negotiations with assigned business units and senior leadership in preparing strategy and proposals to determine feasibility, cost, impacts on operations and relationship to prevailing trends in the industry and the geographic area
  • Supports the development, implementation and maintenance of the NiSource Labor Relations Strategy
  • Builds and maintains ongoing, long-term relationships between negotiating parties
  • Serves as a subject-matter expert and stays current on all new and proposed federal and state employment laws; guiding business and HR leaders in administration of contracts and labor relation policies/practices that are in compliance with federal and state laws, organization policies/practices, and applicable collective bargaining agreements; provides insights on labor activities, manager capabilities, and innovative and preventative practices
  • Manages, interprets, consults and resolves conflicts for all processes associated with the negotiated terms of the collective bargaining agreements within the business unit operations including the administration of the internal bidding/bumping process, grievance and disciplinary processes and serve as the local resource for handling complaints filed with the National Labor Relations Board
  • Works with operations, payroll, leave, workers compensation, safety, and human resources functions to ensure the terms of the collective bargaining agreement are properly adhered to and executed
  • Researches and responds to sophisticated and complex labor relations and employment law issues in a time sensitive manner


Required Qualifications for Position

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 7 years of HR or related experience required, with strong knowledge of collective bargaining, labor relations, employee relations, union prevention and contract administration in a large, multi-state organization
  • 3 years of supervisory experience

  • An advanced degree, preferably in Law, or an MBA
  • Exceptional problem solving skills
  • Solid investigative skills and experience
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Ability to prioritize and manage key projects and initiatives under pressure
  • Possess a strong process-improvement orientation
  • Desire to identify opportunities to improve the employee relations function, make recommendations, and lead a change effort

$107,000.00 - $160,500.00
