Neighborhood House of Milwaukee is Hiring a Director of Development Near Milwaukee, WI

JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Development Director to join our team. As the Development Director, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of fundraising and donor relations for our organization. This is a key leadership role that requires strong strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, and a passion for our mission.

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Working with the Executive Director and the Neighborhood House of Milwaukee (NH) Board of Directors, the Director of Development will provide strategic, creative, and effective leadership in maintaining and growing a comprehensive Fund Development Plan to meet NH’s budgetary requirements for both annual operating expenses and special projects, consistent with the mission and vision of Neighborhood House of Milwaukee.

This position acts as an ambassador for Neighborhood House of Milwaukee, with a goal of developing new funding sources and maintaining positive donor and community relationships. The position works closely with the Executive Director, senior management and the NH Board of Directors in order to implement planning for annual and long-term fund development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Work with the Neighborhood House Board of Directors and Executive Director to execute a Fund Development Plan that identifies, implements, and evaluates fundraising strategies for the agency. Plans must include detailed timelines and task plans to equip the agency to achieve measurable success with both foreseeable and unplanned opportunities.

2. Develop and oversee all individual donor cultivation, relationship building, solicitation and stewardship cycles. This includes developing and sustaining the direction of a major gifts and planned giving programs.

3. Oversee all corporate and corporate foundation relationships, solicitations, volunteer support and recognition, including the oversight of all annual events.

4. Research and identify new individual, foundation, and corporate funding sources.

5. Develop and implement marketing and communications strategies that create awareness and stewardship in the Milwaukee community, foster relationships with media outlets and support fundraising goals.

6. Direct and oversee the NH foundation, corporate, and government grants submission and management efforts. The work includes maintenance of various items, including a grants calendar, funding priorities relevant to Neighborhood House, and grant reporting dates. Identify Board connections to grant decision makers and, where appropriate, assure they participate in cultivation, solicitations and gift recognition. Lead or participate in grantor site visits.

7. Manage and maintain the agency’s donor database and NH’s prospect tracking and management systems.

8. Write and coordinate outward-facing publications such as the Annual Report, promotional publications, and annual appeals.

9. Support Neighborhood House’s relationship with United Way and other federated giving campaigns.

10. Manage and mentor development staff, interns, event and project volunteers, and contracted vendors.

11. Serve as lead staff member to the NH Board of Directors Development and Marketing Committee and other event-specific committees.

12. Manage the agency’s website on an ongoing basis to ensure that information is current, accurate and attractive. Respond in a timely manner to and/or refer web inquiries regarding program enrollment, volunteering, and other external communications.

13. Implement strategies to attract and retain volunteers, including posting and promoting volunteer opportunities, responding to inquiries on a timely basis, assuring that application information is completed, and connecting volunteers with the appropriate NH program.

14. Coordinate and manage social media activity to promote agency awareness, events and opportunities, donor recognition, and volunteer groups.

15. Perform other development duties as needed or directed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s Degree

· Five or more years of fundraising experience, including experience in soliciting major gifts, preferably with a non-profit organization.

· Experienced in managing staff and working with volunteers on fundraising activities

· Experienced in managing successful fundraising events

· Experienced in nonprofit marketing efforts, including print, website, and social media and public/media relations

· Ability to make direct solicitations of donors, and general knowledge of major foundations in southeastern Wisconsin

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· A high degree of initiative, flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Demonstrated ability to plan and effectively implement programs, manage multiple projects, and meet multiple deadlines.

· Demonstrated awareness of sensitivity to/and competence with dealing with cultural and socioeconomic diversity of client populations.

· Available to work flexible hours and weekends as needed.

· General working knowledge of the Milwaukee fundraising community.

· Experience and knowledge of social media outlets and how to utilize these outlets for development purposes

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervise the Development Team and contracted vendors. Provide support to all agency employees regarding the interpretation of policies and procedures. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires education generally equivalent to a Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university and three to five years of management experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports and legal and governmental documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to Board of Directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information in mathematical form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality. Ability to work with a non-judgmental attitude in a population comprised of diversity in gender, socio-economic and ethnic group, sexual orientation and physical or mental abilities. Ability to operate various office equipment.
