Senior Transportation Planner – Thoroughfare Planning and Subarea Studies

Seeking a Senior Transportation Planner to manage project coordination for long-range thoroughfare planning and subarea studies.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Preparing and managing countywide needs assessments, subarea studies, and city thoroughfare plans
• Serving as team liaison for intra-team coordination and technical assistance
• Coordinating the development of computer-based travel demand forecasts
• Developing and applying custom travel modeling applications using TransCAD or similar travel model
• Assisting with the development of regional performance measures
• Coordinating the coding of roadway and transit networks for use in travel demand modeling
• Analyzing travel demand forecast data, including daily roadway volumes, levels of service, vehicle miles traveled, and other performance measures
• Performing investigations and analyses to improve model results, and conducting statistical analyses and projections of forecasts and trends for corridor planning activities
• Preparing and analyzing maps utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
• Coordinating project activities with partner agencies, including the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA), and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
• Responding to local governments, transportation partners and stakeholder requests for technical assistance
• Preparing and delivering oral presentations
• Overseeing and participating in elements of procurement and contracting, including work scope development and consultant oversight on projects
• Preparing and reviewing memorandums, letters, documentation, progress reports, articles, and executive summaries
• Supervising and training staff

The individual in this position should have extensive knowledge of the travel demand forecasting process, strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, and extensive knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.

This position requires at least three years of experience, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods.
