The Transportation Department is now accepting statements of interest from staff for the following position. This position is only open to Transportation Department staff.

Senior Transportation Planner – Transit Funding and Compliance

Seeking a Senior Transportation Planner to assume a leadership role in the Transit Management and Planning team. This position will work with internal staff, public and private transportation providers, local governments, communities, and other stakeholders. In addition, responsibilities include meeting support, and preparing presentations, correspondence, documentation, articles, and reports. 

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinating the collection of various transit-related performance measures
  • Developing and maintaining databases of project listings and funding awards for the purpose of grant administration, monitoring, and tracking
  • Leading the annual programming of federal funds to public transportation providers
  • Conducting various financial analyses to ensure fair and equitable distribution of federal funds across the region
  • Overseeing the preparation of grant documents and verifying all format requirements, funding availability, and deadlines are met
  • Coordinating with local governments, transit agencies and public/private interests across the region on transit planning and funding initiatives/needs
  • Building supportive community networks by coordinating resources, conducting outreach through public presentations, and finding innovative solutions to meet various transportation goals in communities
  • Analyzing and interpreting federal, State, and local regulations and administrative matters pertaining to transportation planning, funding, and other compliance items
  • Leading technical support activities associated with Federal Transit Administration Grant applications
  • Developing and overseeing implementation of the subrecipient oversight program to ensure compliance with relevant transit regulations
  • Providing technical assistance and support within the agency and to external partners
  • Drafting technical and project status reports
  • Setting project/program direction and priorities through strategic planning
  • Assisting with budget development
  • Supervising staff

The person in this position should have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff, partner agencies, the public, and stakeholders, experience with transportation planning, and be sensitive to cultural, socioeconomic, and political issues in the community.

This position requires at least three years of experience as well as a Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods. The individual in this position should be well-versed in project management and time management.
