Job Description

The Transportation Department is now accepting statements of interest from staff for the following position. This position is only open to Transportation Department staff.

Principal Transportation Planner – Roadway Corridor Studies

Seeking a Principal Transportation Planner to lead Roadway Corridor Studies.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Managing roadway planning projects and programs
  • Overseeing the development and monitoring of roadway components in the Metropolitan Transportation Plan for consistency
  • Managing the coordination with external partners regarding roadway project planning, development, and implementation
  • Working with Program Manager to coordinate activities with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) on all National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) related studies in the region
  • Overseeing activities related to monitoring travel demand modeling functions necessary to carry out planning and NEPA studies (Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and Planning and Environmental Linkages)
  • Leading internal peer reviews
  • Developing work scopes and budgets, and monitoring expenditures
  • Overseeing and documenting project progress and ensuring accurate and timely project completion
  • Preparing and delivering oral presentations
  • Preparing and reviewing memorandums, letters, documentation, progress reports, articles, executive summaries and final reports for distribution
  • Supervising staff

This position requires at least five years of progressively responsible experience and a Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods.
