The Senior Accountant Associate fully owns projects in their respective area and will prepare financial reports to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities in a timely and efficient manner. The Sr. Accountant coordinates payroll processing and manages the company’s General Ledger. This role also assists the Finance & Accounting Manager in managing outside vendor relationships for finance-related services, such as tax professionals, insurance providers, etc.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense journal entries by compiling, reviewing, and analyzing account
information.
•Sets up new accounts/jobs, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books in a timely manner.
• Lead Payroll and Retirement Plan processor, including initiating computer processing, verifying entry information, resolving any
discrepancies, as well as ensuring payroll is fully submitted upon approval.
• Maintains and balances Joint Venture and Direct Project accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and
resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Provides outside auditors with assistance by reviewing, gathering, and providing requested information.
• Lead for various sales, use, franchise, and payroll tax filings on a monthly and quarterly basis.
• Coordinates with software vendors as needed to maintain various accounting software systems as well as provide training to the
Accounting team on various trouble-shooting issues.
• Responsible for the review and approval of Travel & Expense reports to ensure policy compliance and prompt payment.
• Supports Finance & Accounting Manager in identifying and researching accounting compliance requirements, interpreting
regulations, and adjusting accounting practices accordingly.
• Review awarded contracts and modifications, provide contract briefs to the Accounting team, as well as develop and maintain
contract control documents to ensure appropriate fiscal compliance.
• Responsible for training new accounting staff team members and delegating entry-level and administrative tasks as well as
reviewing these tasks for accuracy.
• Identifies gaps and opportunities within the Accounting department, takes initiative by formulating a proposed solution, and
subsequently propels solution to fruition.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills & Abilities:
• Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
• Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
• Highly proficient with accounting software.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required.
• Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or similar credential preferred.
• Five years of accounting experience required, federal contractor experience including DCAA & FAR Audit and Compliance highly
preferred.
