Job Description:

Function of Position:

The Computer Specialist position within Technology Services participates with a team to support and maintain the operation of the College's classroom and office images, technology components and infrastructure at all sites. This is a mid-level technical position primarily responsible for the deployment, support, and maintenance of end-user technology equipment including the use of software imaging systems. The position reports to a manager level position.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, repair, and maintain workstation PC's and mobile devices running various operating systems, including all related component hardware, software, cabling, and peripherals
  • Install, configure, repair, and maintain the College's technology infrastructure, including all related components
  • Automate and improve computer functionality and cohesiveness by programming and configuring appropriate components
  • Act as primary technical liaison with academic departments in the College
  • Support the College's computer academic learning environments and assure that classrooms, labs, learning centers, offices, and backups are running properly
  • Assist departments in connecting to and using MCC's system and network resources by conducting individual and/or group training sessions as needed
  • Assist project managers with project implementation by supervising para-professional/part-time staff, determining time-lines and next steps, and researching and recommending needed equipment, software, and other items as directed by project managers
  • Engage in self-directed learning of new network, systems, voice and hardware technologies as the college embraces them
  • Carry a cell phone and participate as a member of the on-call staff
  • Perform all required record keeping and documentation

Secondary Functions:

  • Work occasional weeknights, weekends and holidays to facilitate systems upgrades and maintenance and when the College is closed as directed
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director and/or Associate/Assistant Director(s)

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with software imaging applications and utilities
  • Experience with shell scripting environments such as Powershell, CMD, or Bash.
  • Operating systems knowledge in Windows 10.x and up; AND
    • Earned associate degree in a non-technical field with 24 credit hours in a related computer or networking field from a
      regionally accredited higher education institution and one year of recent image development and PC maintenance
      repair experience; OR
    • Earned associate degree in a technical (computer) field from a regionally accredited higher education institution and
      one year recent image development and PC maintenance repair experience; OR
    • Military training with the equivalent of 24 credit hours in a related computer or networking field with one year of
      recent image development and PC maintenance repair experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with building and deploying images and software with MDT and SCCM
  • Earned bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and public relations skills
  • Ability to keep and maintain inventory records on hardware and software
  • Thorough knowledge of microcomputers, disk drives, printers, and peripherals
  • Experience with documenting processes and procedures
  • Experience with providing technical support in an enterprise environment
  • Commitment to self-learning emerging technologies and working in a team-based environment with expanding activities and quickly changing technologies
  • Experience with a wide range of standard office, graphics, and educational software packages
  • Experience with supporting and troubleshooting MAC devices (laptops, Desktops, iPad and iPhone)
  • Experience in an educational environment
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $52,000 to $83,308 and is based on these mentioned factors.
